During these years, our institute was in coordination or subordinated to the Ministry of Tourism, or function as an independent body for promotion of tourism at national level. Fields of activity: research-development in social and humanistic sciences, code CAEN 7320; research – development, code UNESCO 5312.10. NIRDT was created in the actual form (of national institute of research-development) by the Government Decision no. 866/15.12.1998

'Citius, Altius, Fortius' SEE TCP SAGITTARIUS LAUNCHING (G)LOCAL LEVEL HERITAGE ENTREPRENEURSHIP: STRATEGIES AND TOOLS TO UNITE FORCES, SAFEGUARD THE PLACE, MOBILIZE CULTURAL VALUES, DELIVER THE EXPERIENCE Main research fields:  applied research for the developing and increasing the tourism activity efficiency and integrating the Romanian tourism into the international one; modernizing and developing the Romanian tourism, regaining the traditional tourist markets and attracting new markets, optimizing the tourism activity;  studies and research concerning: the internal and external markets, prognoses and strategies, the tourism marketing and management policy, the monitoring and managing the tourist resources, technical-scientific syntheses and documentary materials;  studies and research regarding the socio-economic impact of tourism and the impact on the environment;

DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES AND PLANS: The national strategy of developing ecotourism in Romania; Master-plan of tourism development on the Prahova valley, mountain area; Study concerning the elaboration of the tourism development strategy for the south area of the Romanian seashore; The development project of tourism in the Danube area - The cruises on the Danube programme;

'Citius, Altius, Fortius' SEE TCP SAGITTARIUS LAUNCHING (G)LOCAL LEVEL HERITAGE ENTREPRENEURSHIP: STRATEGIES AND TOOLS TO UNITE FORCES, SAFEGUARD THE PLACE, MOBILIZE CULTURAL VALUES, DELIVER THE EXPERIENCE EUROPEAN FUNDS: Transnational strategy for the Sustainable Development of the Danube Area with Special Regard to Tourism - DATOURWAY (SEE Programme); Rehabilitation and development of the general and touristic infrastructure in the touristic area Mărginimea Sibiului (PHARE, as consultant); Rehabilitation and development of the general and touristic infrastructre in the cultural and hystoric area Horezu Depression (PHARE, as consultant); PLANNING PROJECTS: The wine and vineyards tourist trail; The optimization and enlargement of the ski domain from Romania - Superski in Carpathians mountains; The improvement of the mountain area regarding the implementation of the tourism programme “The heaven from Carpathians”; Bike routes along the Danube; Green tourism in Romania: organized camping and campsites in Danube Delta.

'Citius, Altius, Fortius' SEE TCP SAGITTARIUS LAUNCHING (G)LOCAL LEVEL HERITAGE ENTREPRENEURSHIP: STRATEGIES AND TOOLS TO UNITE FORCES, SAFEGUARD THE PLACE, MOBILIZE CULTURAL VALUES, DELIVER THE EXPERIENCE OUR ROLE IN THE PROJECT: Our competences in tourism planning, creations of tourism products and developing the destinations will sustain the Sagittarius Pilot Projects development. We will contribute to the institutionalization of heritage interpretation and we will transfer the good practices. We will disseminate the project results across the country, as a national level actor.

Role: It will facilitate the collaboration and communication with national cultural institutes with private actors or NGO’s and through its network will ensure the long term viability of the project.
