Unit 2 Lesson 3 Technology Systems

Big IDEA Big Idea: There are nine “Core Technologies” that are fundamental to all technology systems that must be recognized and understood.

mechanical systems A mechanical system manages power to accomplish a task that involves forces and movement.power to accomplish a task that involves forces and movement. Steam Engine

structural systems The term structural system or structural frame in structural engineering refers to load- resisting sub-system of a structure. The structural system transfers loads through interconnected structural components or members.structural engineering refers to load- resisting sub-system of a structure. The structural system transfers loads through interconnected structural components or members. Example a Truss Bridge

fluid systems system that uses the force of flowing liquids and gases to transmit power. Fluid systems include hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems. force. The push or pull that changes an object's state of motion. gas.

optical systems a combination of lenses, mirrors, and prisms that constitutes the optical part of an optical instrument (as a microscope or telescope)

electrical systems A system that provides electricity Light Switch Car Dash and Lights

electronic systems Electronic systems are groupings of electronic circuits and components which are designed to accomplish one or more complex functions. Examples include telecommunication systems, computer systems, power distribution systems, radar systems, electronic music systems, and many others.

thermal systems A thermal system is a multipart assembly of coupled components (some of them thermal), showing a common structured behaviour; e.g. a refrigerator is a combination of pipes, compressor, electric motor, heat exchangers, valves, insulation, casing, doors, lamp, etc., interacting to a common goal of cold production within. Therefore, a refrigerator is a thermal system, whereas the refrigerant fluid and the interior space are thermodynamic systems.

bio-technical systems is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make useful products, or "any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use" (UN Convention on Biological Diversity, Art. 2).

material systems

Project Intro You and your partner (Groups of 2-3) Research and make a quick presentation explaining what your system is where might we use this system, and a handout. Presentations will be made this Thursday in class.

Project Complete a working model of your system in a box. 2’x3’ roughly nothing larger Box should be decorated with working system model inside Example of design…
