A design movement that influenced architecture, interior design, and the decorative arts-which stressed simplicity of form, a medieval style of decoration, and traditional craftsmanship. 1850 - 1914

Started as a reaction against the historic revivals and mass production of the Victorian era, the movement reached its peak between 1880 and 1910 in England, America, Australia, and Canada. Instigated by artist and author William Morris and John Ruskin, the movement was against the division of labor. Arts & crafts movement

is an international philosophy and style of art, architecture and applied art —especially the decorative arts — that were most popular during 1880– 1910. The name "Art Nouveau" is French for "new art". It is known also as Jugendstil, German for "youth style“.

A reaction to academic art of the 19th century, it was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants but also in curved lines. Architects tried to harmonize with the natural environment. It is also considered a philosophy of design of furniture, which was designed according to the whole building and made part of ordinary life.

The Deutscher Werkbund (German Work Federation) was a German association of artists, architects, designers, and industrialists. The Werkbund was to become an important event in the development of modern architecture and industrial design, particularly in the later creation of the Bauhaus school of design.

Deutscher werkbund 1907-1935

1917 - 1935 was an artistic and architectural philosophy that originated in Russia beginning in 1919, which was a rejection of the idea of autonomous art.

1917 - 1935 Constructivism had a great effect on modern art movements of the 20th century. Its influence was pervasive, with major impacts upon architecture, graphic and industrial design, theatre, film, dance, fashion and to some extent music.

1917-1931 Dutch for "The Style", also known as neoplasticism, was a Dutch artistic movement founded in 1917. The artistic philosophy that formed a basis for the group's work is known as neoplasticism — the new plastic art

Proponents of De Stijl sought to express a new utopian ideal of spiritual harmony and order. They advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and color; they simplified visual compositions to the vertical and horizontal directions, and used only primary colors.

was a school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. It operated from 1919 to 1933.

The Bauhaus was founded with the idea of creating a 'total' work of art in which all arts, including architecture would eventually be brought together. The Bauhaus had a profound influence upon subsequent developments in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and typography. The school existed in three German cities (Weimar from 1919 to 1925, Dessau from 1925 to 1932 and Berlin from 1932 to 1933).

is an eclectic artistic and design style that began in Paris in the 1920s and flourished internationally throughout the 1930s and into the World War II era. The style influenced all areas of design, including architecture and interior design, industrial design, fashion and jewelry, as well as the visual arts such as painting, graphic arts and film.

1920 - 1939

sometimes referred to by either name alone or as Art Moderne, was a late type of the Art Deco design style which emerged during the 1930s. Its architectural style emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and sometimes nautical elements. 1930-1950

in design is the reflection of pop-art. Pop-art employs aspects of mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects. 1958-1972
