2 “Senators Send a Letter to Roger Goodall”  Where is the article from? Is it credible?credible  Where could you look to check the information?  What is the issue?  Who is involved?

3 What is Persuasion?  Persuasion is a BIG term that covers influencing a person’s belief, attitudes, motivations, and intentions.  Really – convincing someone to agree with you!

4 Should the NFL have harsher punishment for those ho commit domestic violence?  Choose a side of the issues  Decide on two reasons that they should do this  If you need to, look up new facts  You can use your phone!  Write a paragraph, using your notes  6-11 sentences, topic sentences, at least 2 quotes (reasons), conclusion

5 Public Service Announcements  are messages in the public interest disseminated by the media without charge  the objective is raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue.

6 Typically PSAs…  are short (usually 60 seconds or less)  present one single issue  inform the viewer of key, relevant facts  have a clear call to action (usually indicated through text on screen)  might or might not include people  might or might not use music  sometimes use voice-overs  sometimes use special effects (like black and white)  might use transitions/editing to enhance the video  aim to leave a lasting impact

7 While you watch  Who is the intended audience? (children, parents, teens, college students, Republicans, etc.)  What is the purpose?  Is it a PSA (trying to change behavior or opinion) or an AD (trying to sell you something)  What is effective? (What do you notice, what makes you pay attention?)

11 Group PSA Rubric 54321 Opinion: The PSA clearly states an opinion on the topic. The audience is aware of what the PSA will tell them. Support: The PSA provides evidence and advice to support the opinion. This evidence is explicitly stated. If applicable support uses examples. Word Choice/Vocabulary: The word choice and topic are relevant to the chosen audience. Students demonstrate understanding of how audience affects vocabulary.

18 On the page  Give helpful details about the setting and characters.  Use slug lines before each scene: what is the setting?  A character's name should go in ALL CAPS above their dialogue  You can also put instructions, such as pauses, or movement, in italics

26 Today  Hand Back “PSA Planning Sheet”: Rewrite with statistics – 2 per group, DUE FRIDAY  Pass out the Story Board sheet: Each group should complete a story board sheet to organize what will be seen in their PSA – they may adjust the format as needed.

27 Today  Complete Story board outline  Write your script – use the example to set it up!  Begin rehearsing – walk through it at least twice
