1 What does Kosher mean?  Kosher does not just refer to food! …….. The word KOSHER means that the laws of the Torah were followed….Really anything that follows Jewish religious laws could be considered Kosher. For instance a hamburger made from beef prepared in the proper way is Kosher. If that same hamburger had cheese put on it then it would not be Kosher because Kosher rules say that meat cannot be eaten with dairy products.  A person could be Kosher in the way they dress, pray, and live

6 Some Kosher Laws in the Bible  Of the "beasts of the earth" you may eat any animal that has cloven hooves and chews its cud. Lev. 11:3; Deut. 14:6. Any land mammal that does not have both of these qualities is forbidden.  Of the things that are in the waters, you may eat anything that has fins and scales. Lev. 11:9; Deut. 14:9.  Birds such as chicken, geese, ducks and turkeys are permitted. Rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and most insects are forbidden. Lev. 11:29-30, 42-43.

17 Kosher also applies to how food is prepared  Milk and meat must not come into contact during cooking nor may they be eaten together at the same meal  For meat to be Kosher it must be slaughtered in a particular fashion

18 The slaughter should be performed by a specially trained person known as a ‘Shochet’ The knife (chalef) should be long (16 inches for cattle and other large animals and 12 inches for sheep) and razor-sharp and should be used to slaughter the animal in a single, unbroken move The knife should be inspected by the Shochet (the slaughter person) for sharpness and damage before every animal is slaughtered A blessing should be given before entering the kill floor The oesophagus, trachea, jugular veins and carotid arteries should be cut without damaging the spinal marrow The blood should be totally drained ae.imcode.com/en/1138?template=ReferenceText
