SY 2006 - 2009 Report Submitted by the Sibol Program Mgmt. Team

GK Multinational is one of thousands of villages throughout the country under a holistic nation building program called Gawad Kalinga or GK. GK aims to lift the state of the underprivileged Filipinos to become responsible citizens who can productively participate in the development of the Philippines. er A. Sibol is one of the Child and Youth Development programs of GK dedicated to the preparation of GK children, ages 3 to 6 years, for their elementary education. FEDEX funded in full, the operations of Sibol at GK Multinational for the past 3 school years since it opened in June of 2006.

In addition, FEDEX funded the construction of two classrooms and library in the new 3 storey Community Center building at the GK site. FedEX employees have from time to time worked in the construction of the Community Center. Mr. David Ross, FedEX VP himself helped lay the building ‘s foundations, now a structure remarkable to behold in a site that used to be a big garbage dump. FedEx is not alone in supporting Sibol. There many other partners playing various roles contributing to the well being of the Sibol program. The parents and students of Woodrose HS for example are very active supporters of Sibol, having funded the bigger part of the Community Center.

Since its opening on June 13, 2006. Sibol has graduated 104 students. Top graduates are provided the opportunity to enter private elementary schools on a scholarship basis. So far Sibol has been able to arrange for 4 graduates to enter the Madre Maria Pia Notari School in Multinational Village. Sibol students are divided into two groups: nursery and prep taught by 2 professionally qualified teachers and a teacher’s assistant. A major feature of the Sibol program is the field trip. Sibol students go to at least 4 field trips a school year visiting various destinations which provide opportunities for further learning.

Sibol scholars have performed within the top10% of their class composed of students mostly from middle to higher income families. Sibol teachers regularly attend training programs conducted by the National Sibol Office of GK. PTA meetings are held monthly to thresh out issues with the parents.

Values and the Christian Faith are taught by a group of sisters from a nearby convent. Feeding programs and games are conducted by High School students from Woodrose. A computer learning program is regularly taught as an outreach by STI-IT students. Community Days are conducted every month wherein the students showcase what they have learned. For field trips, the students have been taken on a 2 hour jet plane ride over the country by Hawaiian Airlines, visited the Children’s Museum, the City Fire Department, the Coca-Cola bottling plant, the National Library, the Lufhansa aircraft maintenance hangar, etc. These trips including the transportation, are usually sponsored by other partners.

The culminating activity for SIBOL school year is the Moving Up Program. Top students are then bench-marked at three private elementary schools. So far all graduates have passed the entrance tests, attesting to the good quality of the Sibol program. More and more non-GK residents are seeking entrance to this Sibol school. Mr. Sammy David, Country Manager of FedEX, together with his family has regularly attended the Moving Up ceremonies.

The Sibol School at GK Multinational - a living testimony of FedEX‘s loving care for the Filipino people.

We thank all our SIBOL’s partners, most especially FedEx for helping the children in GK Multinational look forward to a brighter tomorrow.

Thank you and may GOD bless you all always…
