ECO-QUARTIERS: ENJEUX ET OPPORTUNITES POUR LA WALLONIE ASEPMA is a Catalan engineering company working in the field of water management, water treatment and is specialised in the reuse of non potable water. Since its beginning in 2003, ASEPMA has offered its services to a great number of clients coming from the field of public administrations all kind of industries as well as private customers like architects, promoters, etc. Our services include the whole range of tasks related to the management of water cycle beginning with consultancy, project design, installation and maintenance and control of treatment facilities for non potable water. ASEPMA works nationally (Spain) and also internationally. Among our clients : City of Barcelona, City of Tarragona, Catalan Water Agency, BASF, Bayer, ArcelorMittal, Mall Plaza Group, Spanish Ministry of Defence,….

Water scarcity occurs where there are insufficient water resources to satisfy long- term average requirements. It refers to long-term water imbalances, combining low water availability with a level of water demand exceeding the supply capacity of the natural system. Water-scarcity can be defined by the water exploitation index (WEI). Wei divides the total water abstraction by the long term annual average (LTAA) resource Introduction Water Scarcity

The price of water Drinking water supplied to consumers in Walonia: approx. 4,28 €/ m 3 This corresponds to an approximate price of 0,0042 € per liter of drinking water, supplied to the final point of the domestic consumption, including urban drainage and treatment of waste water! Is that cheap or expensive?! Bottled drinking water : between 0,70 and 80 € per liter ECO-QUARTIERS: ENJEUX ET OPPORTUNITES POUR LA WALLONIE Introduction

ECO-QUARTIERS: ENJEUX ET OPPORTUNITES POUR LA WALLONIE Reflections -Water scarcity often is not very obvious until it becomes a real problem. -Management of water has to consider both quantity and quality criteria. -Alternative water management including decentralised systems and diversification of water source is not more expensive than traditional water management. -Alternative and decentralised water management reduces significantly drinking water consumption and spill to waste water treatment plants.
34
ECO-QUARTIERS: ENJEUX ET OPPORTUNITES POUR LA WALLONIE Reflections -Alternative and decentralised water management reduces significantly drinking water consumption and spill to waste water treatment plants. -Today water management is not a technical problem, rather a conceptual one. -Smart water management needs to consider in every case the particular circumstances of the project. -Drinking water, like energy is a precious resource, however commonly undervalued due to a supposed easy and unlimited access and it´s relatively low cost.
