3 Uses for PASS Courses Credit Retrieval Credit Accrual

4 Settings for PASS Outside regular school day Summer Programming Beyond the school setting, especially when students are moving (district to district, state to state) Settings where internet is not accessible Schools/Districts utilizing courses, whole or in part, as supplemental instruction

5 PASS Characteristics Flexible (time, course usage) Portable Standards-based Minimal need for Internet access Can be done anywhere, at anytime Full calendar year to complete course Most courses are 5-units, 14 lessons per unit

6 Students who are successful are: Highly motivated to complete course work Able to work in a semi-independent environment Able to read and write at a 7 th grade reading level (primarily if working semi- independently) Has the time to commit to the work

7 Additional Students who benefit from PASS: ELL students when provided support, earn credit while working on English Language development Out of School Youth (OSY) who want to improve study skills for future educational endeavors

9 Queen Creek, AZ Offers PASS during the school year, has support in an after-school setting Offers PASS as a Summer School Option PASS used for both credit recovery and credit accrual

10 PPEP-Tec During the school year time for PASS work Summer Programming Courses selected by students with assistance of MEP staff and guidance counselors Credit primarily for graduation progression

11 Yuma Union High School District Offered during the school year – tutoring available Summer School setting - evolution of implementation Primarily for credit accrual – due to district curriculum changes – Credit earned for graduation requirements in a shorter time span – Support of EL students progress towards graduation

12 Yuma Union – Summer Programming 18 days – matches schedule of district-wide Summer School 6 hours day Small group instruction / individual tutoring available (approx. 25 teachers hired) Hosted at two sites within district
