4. Color Card Chart Each teacher at Long Beach Elementary School will use a color card system for positive behavior management. Teachers will keep track of “cards pulled” by students and this can be used as a tool by the teacher and parent for creating positive behavior change when necessary. Each Monday their will be a note in your child’s Monday Folder informing you of cards pulled for the previous week.

5. Walk To Read Your child is placed in a reading group based on their current level of reading. They are either in Ms. Hall, Mrs. Kitzman, Mrs. Anderson, or Mrs. Clarke’s class. The reading curriculum in each group is research and standards based. Reading class is 1 hour, 5 days a week. READING LOG: Your child should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes every night!! Please encourage this.

6. Math 5/6 Math standards are taught to each grade level. We have daily MSP practice with an entry task. Every night they are responsible for a minute math. Often they will have a math assignment to complete at home.

7. Social Studies We will be studying geography and U.S. History! Social Studies Class meets two days a week.

8. Writing Writing will focus this year on the 6 traits of writing  Organization  Ideas  Voice  Fluency  Conventions  Word choice

9. Science Students travel to Mrs. Anderson’s class for science. She will focus on Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. We are also involved in a year long beach investigation. We will work with Julie Tennis from the state parks and collect data from our beach once a month.
