 Arab-American Culture Overview  Contribution to Education  Inclusionary Practices  Parent Teacher Collaboration

 History:  Arab Americans roots stem from the late 1800’s  Arabs emigrated for peace, stability, and to provide for their family  Arab Americans come from over 20 countries

 Values:  Arab Americans value family  Those that practice Islam impose for their children to learn Arabic

 Arab American students bring a lot of diversity and promote the multi culture atmosphere in schools  Understand that these students come from countries that don’t have the best education system and in some cases, women are not allowed to go to school at all.

 Since September 11, 2001, Arab American groups have promoted relations with the United States people  Groups have also connected with politicians to promote unity world wide

 Inclusionary practices make up the most important part when it comes to education and Arab Americans  Arab American students face many challenges due to misinformation, stereotyping, and racism  It is important educators educate themselves as well as the non Arab students to prevent these challenges to our Arab American students

 The background of Arabs is that they prefer to have more structure with their education  Educators should be willing to provide more detail and be specific about courses and assignments

 It is important to not offend or discriminate against Arab American students  Educators should not enforce rules that discriminate against any culture  Such things that educators and administrators need to take in to consideration are: dress codes, genders, and religious practices

 It is important to understand that Arabs cherish the family  “Research suggests that parents who promote a positive attitude toward persistence and work as a whole, increase student achievement” (Wardle, 2013).  This is crucial because it lets educators know that their students have a strong back bone at home  Educators should keep the lines of communication open with all parents

 Arab American parents are excellent multi culture tools and should be used to bring in to the classrooms  Some of these parents have lived in the Arab countries and can show and tell their experiences
