1. is for art Part 2: Write an Oral Report about the Artist Follow these steps to write an oral report about the artist you have chosen. To earn this letter, you must do three things: 1.Examine the artwork of a famous artist. 2.Give an oral report to the class about the artist with a Power Point OR Word Document presentation to enhance your report. 3.Use the artist’s style to create your OWN masterpiece. The following is a sample list of artists. You may choose one of these or another artist whose work interests you. Part 1: Examine Pieces of Art Choose an artist whose work interests you. Look in books or online to find and examine their artwork. You might want to look at a wide variety of artwork and choose a piece that you like. Then choose an artist. Step 1: Go to the library to find books about the artist. It is best to start in the children’s section. Also find articles or information in the encyclopedia. Look through the books and find pictures of art you like. Decide which artist you would like to research Step 2: Check out books about the artist. Start to look through the books. 2. Step 3: Write each of the following topics on a separate note card or use four sheets of paper: Life, Artistic Style, Famous Works, Other Interesting Information. Now, look through the information in the books and other resources. Remember you don’t have to read the entire book. Look at the table of contents, index, headings, and subtitles to help you find the information you need. Takes notes on the information you have found. 1.Life- Keep your notes about the life of the artist in chronological order. Include significant events from the artist’s life. 2.Artistic Style - What does the artist’s style look like? Here are some key words to get you going… *sculpture, *paintings, *photographs, *abstract or concrete, *oil, *watercolor, *unique brush strokes, *lines, *shading, *foreground or background, *color *impressionism, *cubism, *futurism, *modern, *neoclassical, *baroque, *romanticism, *expressionism, *medieval, *minimalism, *realism 3.Famous Works- What are the names of the works? Why do you think people like them? Have they been sold for money? How much? Take notes on any information you find about their famous works. 4.Other interesting information- What other information did you find that was interesting? Take notes about each topic on the topic’s page. Notes do not have to be in complete sentences. Be sure not to copy directly from the book. Use your own words! Step 4: You will use these notes to use as an oral report that you will present to the class. Step 5: Create a Power Point presentation OR Word document for your presentation. You may email it, bring it to school on a USB, or print them and use regular paper to display them on the Elmo during your report. **Remember that Power Point OR Word presentations are not long sentences or paragraphs. Information is presented in short sentences or bullet points. Your oral report should give further details about these points. You should not simply read from your slides. They are a guide to help your audience follow what you are saying. Also, be sure not to have too much information on one slide. You may use as many slides as you want. PART 3: Create Your Own Masterpiece Look again at pictures of the artist’s work and think about the artist’s style. Then using the same techniques, create your own piece of art. Your project can be an exact copy of the artist’s piece or an original piece you have created in the style of the artist. Use the artist’s techniques to design your own unique project.
