Layer Filters1 Sacramento City College Engineering Design Technology

Layer Filters2 u A large number of layers in a drawing u Is cumbersome to use when all layers are displayed. u Layer filters u Are used to screen/filter out layers that you do not want to display in the Layer Properties Manager.

Layer Filters3 u Layer filter: All u Displays all layers in drawing (empty or not)

Layer Filters4

5 u Layer filter: All Used Layers u Default filter created by AutoCAD u Cannot be removed/modified u Hides all empty layers.

Layer Filters6

7 Creating Layer Filters u Creating Layer Filters u Two types of filters can be created: u Property Filter u Group Filter

Layer Filters8

9 Creating Layer Filters u Property Filter u Filters layers according to specific layer properties. u Layer Name u Layer color u Layer linetype, etc. u All layers that are turned on u All layer names beginning with “A” u All layer names that contain “1 st floor”

Layer Filters10

Layer Filters11 Creating Layer Filters u Property Filter u Example: can filter all layers that are u Turned on. u Have a name beginning with the letter A u Or both u The default ALL Used Layers filter is an example of a property filter.

Layer Filters12 Creating Layer Filters u Group Filter u Is created by adding layers to the filter without defining individual layer properties. u Example u To filter all layers used to draw an electrical plan, drag and drop the electrical layers into the group filter, u instead of u using properties, such as all layer names beginning with the letter E.

Layer Filters13

Creating a Property Filter Layer Filters14

Layer Filters15 Creating Layer Filters u Creating a Property Filter u Pick New Property Filter u Or u Right-click the filter tree area u Select “New Properties Filter” menu option. u The Layer Filter Properties dialog box is displayed.

Layer Filters22

Creating Property Filter u On u Displays only the names of layers that are on u Or u Only layers that are off. u Freeze u Display only frozen layers u Or u Thawed layers only Layer Filters23

Creating Property Filter u Lock u Only layers that are locked u Or u Unlocked Layer Filters24

Creating Property Filter u Color u Type a color name u Or u Pick the ellipses button to select a color from the Select Color dialog box. Layer Filters25

Creating Property Filter u Linetype u Type a linetype u Or u Pick the ellipses button to select a linetype from the Select Linetype dialog box. u Lineweight u Type a lineweight u Or u Pick the ellipses button to select a lineweight from the Select Lineweight dialog box. Layer Filters26

Creating Property Filter u Plot Style u Type a Plot Style u or u Pick the ellipses button to select a Plot Style from the Select Plotstyle dialog box. Layer Filters27

Creating Property Filter u Plot u Pick layers that plot u or u Pick layers that do not plot. u New VP Freeze u Display only frozen or thawed layers applied when a new layout viewport is created. u This option is only available in Paper Space Layer Filters28

Creating Property Filter u Other layer filter options that appear only in Paper Space mode u VP Freeze u VP Color u VP Linetype u VP Lineweight u VP Plot Style Layer Filters29

Creating Property Filter u Simple or complex filters can be created u One or more rows can be inserted. Layer Filters30

Layer Filters31

Creating Group Filters Layer Filters32

Creating Group Filters u Pick the New Group Filter button u Or u Right-click in the filter tree area u Select New Group Filter u Give a new name to the Group Filter u Pick “All” to show all the layers. u Drag and drop layers to new Group Filter to add them to the filter. Layer Filters33

Creating Group Filters u A layer can be removed from the Group Filter. u Right-click u Choose “Remove Layer”. u Layers can be replaced by other layers u Pick Replace from the Select Layers u Allows you to select objects on the layer to replace all other layers in the group filter. Layer Filters34

Activating Layer Filters u To activate filter u Select the filter from the filter tree area Layer Filters35

Inverting Layer Filters u Layer filter settings can be inverted. u Pick the “invert filter” check box located in the lower-left corner u or u right-click in the layer list area and select u Invert Layer Filter. Layer Filters36

Layer Filters37

Layer Filters38

Additional Layer Filter Options u Right-click the filter tree view area u Most options are available for all filters. u Some are only filter-specific. Layer Filters39

Additional Layer Filter Options u Visibility u Lock u Viewport u Isolate Group u New Properties Filter u New Group Filter u Convert to Group Filter u Rename u Delete u Properties u Select layers Layer Filters40

Additional Layer Filter Options u Visibility u Allows you to change the on/off and thawed/frozen states of the unfiltered layers. u Lock u Locks or unlocks the filtered layers. u Viewport u Allows you to freeze or thaw the unfiltered layers in the current layout viewport. Layer Filters41

Additional Layer Filter Options u Isolate Group u Freezes all layers except those associated with the filter and the current layer. Layer Filters42

Additional Layer Filter Options u New Properties Filter u Opens the Layer Filter Properties dialog box. u New Group Filer u Creates a new group filter u Convert to Group Filter u Converts a property filter to a group filter. Layer Filters43

Additional Layer Filter Options u Rename u Allows you to rename the selected filter. u Delete u Deletes the selected filter u Properties u Allows you to edit a property filter u Select Layers u Provides option to add or replace layers in an existing group filter. Layer Filters44

Layer States Layer Filters45

Layer States u Layer settings u On/off u Frozen/thawed u Plot/no plot u Locked/unlocked u The status of layer settings for all layers in the drawing can be saved as a layer state. Layer Filters46
