St. Mary’s Catholic School, Mayville Mrs. Kaiser, Technology Teacher

Everything you need to know about class each week

General Expectations Come prepared for class with folder, pencil or pen, journaling notebook, and completed assignments. If you are absent, you should check Edmodo for assignments and try to finish them before the next class. Extra time to complete the assignment may be given when necessary. Sit quietly in assigned seat & wait for instructions. Do not turn on computer until instructed to do so Stay in your seat throughout class except when permission is given or when you are instructed to do otherwise.

Everything you need to know about turning in assignments

Assignments Write your name clearly. Full credit will NOT be given if your name is illegible (if I cannot read it). Turn in assignments when due. Late assignments will lose points. Marking an assignment as “Turned in” on Edmodo can be used to help you keep track of when assignments have been completed. However, assignments are not turned in until I have them in hand. Each assignment will be worth a set amount of points. The points vary depending on the size of the assignment or the amount of work involved in completing it.

Assignments Most assignments that are handed out will also be available to download and/or print out on Edmodo. When possible, you are free to complete worksheets using the computer and turning them in via Edmodo. It will be necessary to complete some assignments using Edmodo.

Clarification of journaling expectations

Journaling Unless the notebook has been collected for grading, you will be expected to journal at least once each week. When completing your journal, write the date that you complete the assignment (similar to a diary). Grading the journal For a grade of B, length of the journal entry will be at least 100 words for grades 7 & 8, and 75 words or 5 complete sentences for grades 5 & 6. For an A, your journaling for the week should be longer than that stated above and/or you will need to journal more often than once during the week.

Journaling If you wish, you may journal using Microsoft Word instead of writing in your journaling notebook. If you use the computer you will need to 1. Save the journaling document(s) on your computer. Post a note to me on Edmodo ( send to Mrs. Kaiser only) and attach the file. Remember to date your journaling entry. 2. Write a brief note in the journal stating that you have sent the journal to me via Edmodo. Include the date.

Journaling Unless you are typing the assignment, you will be expected to use cursive. When journaling, pay attention to spelling and sentence structure. If you wish, you may write both a draft and a then a final copy in your journal notebook. The draft will not be graded, but will be taken into consideration; a rough draft can be considered evidence of effort to do well on the assignment.

Journaling Journaling can consist of anything having to do with technology class. For example: Write a summary of what you did while using a computer Write a step-by-step review of everything you did Write about your feelings and/or frustrations about class activities or about using technology in general Write down questions you may have. You may also try to answer the questions you have with your best guess.

Journaling Although I originally planned to collect journals only once at the end of the quarter, I have since decided to collect them periodically and sometimes without advance notice.

A brief explanation

Grading Each assignment will be worth a set amount of points. The points vary depending on the size of the assignment or the amount of work involved in completing it. Points may be deducted for a variety of reasons that include: No name or illegible name on paper Assignment turned in late and/or incomplete Assignment is sloppy or difficult to read Incomplete/poor sentence structure and numerous spelling errors Printing instead of using cursive

Grading Completing the minimum requirements of the assignment, even though correct, does not automatically guarantee an A for the assignment Some assignments will initially be given a letter grade rather than points. When this happens, points will then be assigned so that the points match the letter grade.

Grading Grades for each assignment will be posted on Edmodo. However, the final grade for the quarter may not match the Edmodo average. Prior to giving the final grade for the quarter, I will consult with other teachers regarding possible technology-based assignments in other classes Effort and participation will also be taken into consideration in determining the final report card grade.

Things to know

Edmodo Know your audience: Mrs. Kaiser ALL your classmates (you cannot post messages to individuals, except to your teacher) Anyone else that you or your classmates have shared the site with (parents/friends/relatives) Note that no one other than class members have direct access to the class page, and that no one else is able to join the class. However, students are encouraged to show and share the site with parents.

Edmodo The main purpose of the site is to provide a safe and easy way to connect and exchange ideas, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. The site is to be used to communicate with classmates about school and assignments It does not need to be related only to technology class Do not share your user name and password with anyone except your parents or guardians. Note that in the future, parents may be given an access code so that they can keep up-to-date with your progress

Edmodo When posting comments, you cannot post private messages to friends. You can post a private message to your teacher. Your teacher has complete access to your account and can change your settings to “Read Only” if posting of messages is abused You would still be able to access and download all assignments You would still be able to post messages directly to the teacher You would NOT be able to post messages to the class

Edmodo Edmodo allows you to upload and organize documents to your Library Try to figure things out on your own or ask for help from your classmates or teacher
