Making Safety

-To involve more people in safety. -To try and make the subject of safety more fun. -To produce a quiz that will hopefully make the individual find out more about the subject. -To promote the winners of the competitions to encourage others to get involved. -To devise a scheme to reward departments for their safety performance, by donating money to a charity of their choice. Aims

Competitions Word-Searches -Split the site up into departments. Make each word-search specific by using words unique to that department. -Put in a rogue word to ensure the word-search is completed -Add in a tiebreak question asking how they could contribute to safety in their area and award a £20 gift voucher. -Given to supervisors to hand out to their teams. -Promoted the winners via posters…’It Pay$ To Think Safety!’

Competitions Safety Pairs & Threesomes! -As before split the site up into departments using words specific to that area. -Add in a tiebreak question asking how they could contribute to safety in their area with a £20 gift voucher as a prize. -Given to supervisors to hand out, sent to everyone via e-mail and copies placed in mess rooms. -Winners poster was produced.

Competitions Safety Caption Competition. -Using photo’s of blatant unsafe acts in various situations. -Use them to highlight the safe way of doing things. -Open to all departments. -The best caption for each scenario won a £20 gift voucher. -This was by far the most popular competition by adding in a humorous element!

Competitions - Next Idea Spot The Unsafe Behaviour!. -Use something like the ROSPA ‘Spot The Hazard’ competition. -Focus on behaviours rather than hazards. -Falls in line with our current safety initiatives on KSB’s -May be one big prize per site. E.g. Home Entertainment system

No Prize…..Just For Fun! Safety Catchphrases. -Using accident experience relating to behaviour, develop a list of Key Safe Behaviours. -For each of these behaviours devise a catchphrase for people to work out. -Encourage employees to find out about KSB’s to help complete the catchphrases.

Safety Reward Scheme -A way of congratulating a department for its safety record. -Encourages colleges to look out for one another. -For every 6 months without a LTA, a sum of money is banked. -If the department goes another 6 months then another sum is awarded. -If in any 6 month period a LTA occurs, the counter is reset but money already banked is safe. -When an agreed limit is banked, the money is donated to a charity/good cause of the departments choice.
