2 Adjectives An adjective describes, limits or modifies a noun or pronoun. Adjectives tell which one, what kind or how many. Examples: The oldest girl drove a used car. The four brothers were all good students. Ken is very tall. Note: The definite article the and the indefinite articles a and an are adjectives.

3 Adjectives A proper adjective is a proper noun either used as an adjective or made from a proper noun. It describes a noun or pronoun, and it always begins with a capital letter. Examples: The Spanish teacher is from Madrid. The ambitious politician struck a Lincolnesque pose. Shakespeare lived during Elizabethan times.

4 Adverbs An adverb modifies a verb, and adjective or another adverb. It may tell how, when, where, to what extent, how much or why. Many adverbs are made by adding –ly to an adjective. Note: The word not is always an adverb.
