11  Analyzed Common Formative Assessments of units in reading and math to check progress  During PLC meetings, teachers use the Data Protocol to assist in charting progress  Examined MAP scores with teachers – identifying students in specific areas of weakness in reading and math (School-wide = Language and Writing in reading) (Kindergarten – addition and subtraction, First Grade – measurement and data, Second Grade – computation)  Each PLC creating an action plan using DesCarte information  Essential Skills, IXL, EducationCity and Mathletics are being used at least two times a week for every student.  Flexible grouping is being used by some teachers to reach every child in their specific areas of weakness. Teachers are using the DesCarte Zone areas to adjust instruction for students.  PLCs are reviewing units and standards to teach to mastery level. Kindergarten PLC – covering addition and subtraction in math and phonemic segmentation and blending of CVC words in reading.  First grade PLC – covering data and measurement in math and comprehension, long/short vowels and text clues in reading.  Second grade PLC – covering basic multiplication concept and attributes in math and informational text and using adverbs and adjectives in writing.

12  Ready, Set, Kindergarten – April 25 th (Brigance data decides our mini- session topics) Mini-sessions on cognitive instruction in reading and math development, language development, gross and fine motor training, behavioral and social skills, physical expectations of environment, and self help skills of zippers, snaps, buttons, shoes, etc.  PLAYschool – The preschool teachers have met monthly to review student development. In March our staff will meet with preschool parents to explain the Brigance process  Title I – Math night/Reading night – Each nine week curriculum map was given to every parent. Preschool through second grade provide activities for parents to build students’ skills in reading and math. Our staff explained MAP scores and provided websites for parents to improve scores.  Special events to promote reading and writing skills – AR award chart, Rotary Academic Awards, local authors and story tellers, Dr. Seuss Week and specific writing task (biographies, author studies, reader theater).
