1 2016 – 2017 TRYOUTS INFORMATIONAL PARENT MEETING Like Aledo High School Cheerleading on Facebook!

2 CHEER CONSTITUTION This meeting will cover highlights of the cheer constitution. As a cheer/mascot candidate/parent, you are responsible for reading and understanding the entire Cheer Constitution (which can also be accessed on the Cheer web page). Cheer Constitution Acknowledgement of Constitution is required in the Tryout Packet.

3 PROGRAM MEMBERSHIP The AHS cheer squad consists of three squads: –Varsity: 16-20 members based on natural break –Junior Varsity: Up to 16 members –Freshman: Up to 16 members The candidates with the top total points will be decided by the natural point break in scores. AHS Cheer Sponsors: –Varsity: Stacy Jones and Annie Walker –Junior Varsity: TBD –Freshman: Anita Callaway

4 COMMITMENT A cheer member will serve from the day of selection until the last day of school the following academic year. Year-round commitment Cheer commitments come FIRST. Although we encourage participation in other activities/sports (including competitive squads) school cheer must be first priority.

5 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES LEADERSHIP –Members will demonstrate good sportsmanship, promote school spirit, and display genuine concern for others. ACADEMICS –No pass, no play –Cheer follows UIL Athletic Eligibility Schedule ATTENDANCE –Attendance at all practices, games, events, pep rallies, and designated activities is mandatory. –*Mascots are responsible for attending all events decided upon by the campus cheer coach. –ALL cheer members and mascots are required to attend summer camp and Varsity members are required to attend mini cheer camp.

6 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES FINANCIAL –All cheer members must be current with payments. –$500.00 Deposit to be made on March 22 nd at Uniform Fitting –$25.00 Tryout Fee –$50.00 Athletic Fee for VARSITY members (unless cheerleader is participating in another UIL sport at AHS) –Uniform expenses range from $1200.00-$1500.00 –Camp fee $179 dollars plus $25 for lunches –Fall Practices approximately $50 per girl –UIL Competition Choreography/FeesTBD for VARSITY ONLY

7 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES PHYSICAL –All cheer members must have a current physical on file. You will find all the forms online under athletics. All physicals are due by June 9 th. –On Campus Physical Date TBD –Absolutely no jewelry during practices, games, or events (includes all body piercings). –*Because of the increased athleticism of today’s cheerleaders and the complexity of some stunts performed, there is a risk, as in any athletic sport, or serious injury.*

8 DISCIPLINE Cheerleaders are expected to uphold the highest standards of personal conduct both in and out of school. Cheerleaders will adhere to the AHS Cheerleading Demerit System

9 MASCOT Mascot duties: –Attend all mascot-related practices and camp –Perform in costume as mascot for athletic events –Adhere to all parts of the Cheerleading Constitution –Assist cheerleaders and sponsors in managing squad materials –Adhere to Cheerleading Demerit System

10 TRYOUTS ELIGIBILITY –Cumulative average of 70 or above for EACH subject through the 4 th six weeks. –Candidates must not have failed any two classes during the current year (this can be the same or different subjects and includes PAP) –Candidates who have received two or more N’s or one or more “U” in citizenship during the current year will be disqualified. –DAEP Placement disqualifies you for tryouts

11 TRYOUTS REQUIREMENTS –Attend mandatory parent/candidate tryout meeting –Tryout packet and current report card turned in to sponsor NO LATER than 4:00 pm on Friday, February 19th. –Attend both mandatory clinic days

12 TRYOUT CLINIC March 7 th -9 th 4:30-7:00 (3 rd Day optional) Learn cheer, chant, and dance *Mascots will perform a skit/dance to the school fight song. They will use the mascot uniform which is the property of Aledo High School and are allowed to use props. All practices are closed practices. Candidates only!

13 TRYOUTS Thursday March 10 th - 3:00 pm Varsity -4:30 pm Junior Varsity - 6:00 pm Freshman *Mascot Tryouts will be held in between squad tryouts *Only sponsors principal, assistant principals, officials, and judges will be allowed in the gym for tryouts. Results will be posted on March 11 th after 4:30 pm on the Aledo High School website

14 TRYOUTS  Tryout Attire  Plain white t-shirt & black shorts. Cannot be tight or spanks-like shorts.  Hair back in high ponytail and only a solid white or black bow/ribbon  No jewelry, nail polish or extreme makeup.  Nothing can be worn that has anything identifying a candidate as a cheerleader.

15 TRYOUTS There will be NO CELL PHONES allowed in any of the tryout areas. If a candidate fails to show up for his/her assigned tryout time, she/he will not be permitted to tryout at all. Aledo ISD will only conduct ONE tryout per year. If a student is unable to participate in this tryout for any reason, she/he must wait until the following year.

16 CHEER CAMP NCA Home Camp at Aledo High School July 18 th -21 st $179 per girl plus $25 per girl for lunch Parents will be required to provide transportation to and from camp each day. Camp Showcase for families will be on Thursday, July 21 st
