4 What do we do if Seniors aren’t College Ready at beginning of Senior Year? Bridge Math Bridge English 12 Boot Camps for Math or English Seniors can take COMPASS up to 2 times during their Senior Year

5 COMPASS Developed by ACT as a college placement test Evaluates student skill levels in Reading, Writing Skills, Writing Essay, Math, and English as a Second Language. Used to place students in appropriate courses at the postsecondary level. Used to connect students to the resources they need to achieve academic success Source: www.act.org/compass/

6 KDE Career Ready Model Must meet one requirement in Academic and Technical to be considered Career Ready: Academic – ASVAB – WorkKeys® Applied Math Locating Information Reading for Information Technical – KOSSA – Industry Certificates

7 ASVAB Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test Most widely administered aptitude test in the United States (Air Force – 50, Army – 31, Marines – 32, Navy – 35, Coast Guard – 40) Results are used to predict the ability to learn skills. No military items are included. Helps predict success in a wide range of jobs. Measures Verbal Skills, Math Skills and Science/Technical Skills. 334 items, 2 ½ hour session. 8 WorkKeys ® Developed by ACT. Measures abilities in Communication, Problem Solving, Interpersonal Skills, and Personal Skills. Based on performance in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information, individuals may obtain ACT’s National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). – Platinum* – Gold* – Silver* – Bronze 8 Source: WorkKeys®, an Overview *Silver, gold or platinum must be earned to count for being Career Ready

9 Kentucky Occupational Skill Standards Assessment (KOSSA) Students who have taken 3 specific courses in a career path take this test. Tests at SCHS given include: – Early Childhood Education – 17 seniors – Consumer Family Management – 23 seniors – Technology Education/Pre-Engineering – 10 seniors; 17 juniors – Horticulture – 11 seniors; 5 juniors – Livestock – 5 seniors; 11 juniors – Food Science – 6 seniors; 3 juniors – Agribusiness – 6 seniors; 3 juniors

10 Industry Certification Developed by and used for specific industry. Various industries have designated standards for certificates, certifications and licensures. Certificates may allow individuals to enter directly into the workforce. Recognized as a measure of technical skill attainment for senior preparatory students in career and technical education as a part of Perkins accountability. 14 Where are we right now? 177 Seniors at SCHS 8 Seniors at Hillview 185 Total 52ACT College Ready 14 COMPASS College Ready 66 = 35.6% 33 Students who took KOSSA and are not college ready will take the WorkKeys® 7 Spencer County Students at Bullitt County ATC met the benchmark and are on track to receive an Industry Certificate.
