3 COMBINING SENTENCES WITH PHRASES Ideas from short sentences can be combined into one sentence using prepositional or appositive phrases. Our cat curls up. He curls up on top of my homework. Combine using a prepositional phrase: Our cat curls up on top of my homework.

4 COMBINING SENTENCES WITH PHRASES Combined sentences using appositive phrases: Short sentences: Mrs. Keller makes the best cookies on the block Mrs. Keller is our next door neighbor. Combining the sentences with an appositive phrase: Mrs. Keller, our next-door neighbor, makes the best cookies on the block.
