European Projects an opportunity for AREV ? European Programmes Best Practices Calls

Territorial cooperation

Research and training?

CESBA ALPS 11 Partners from 6 Countries (Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Liechtenstein) Objective of the project: Development of a generic framework and 9 regional assessment tools to measure the sustainability of a territory by means of objective indicators and criteria European Passport for Sustainable Territories Test and validation of the assessment tools on pilot territories (i.e. wine territories) Training activities Implementation of the assessment tools in policies and planning activities Label for territorial marketing

6 Partners from Italy and France Objectives of the project: Development of transnational indicators to measure the level of quality, resilience and adaptation to climate changes of buildings and human habitats Development and test of a rating system for agricultural buildings, including the evaluation of the transformation activities (i.e. wineries) Identification of best practices in the Alcotra territory: high quality agricultural buildings Training activities Habit.A

Difficult, but not impossible…

EMPHASIS Research and Innovation Actions: Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy Work Programme Coordinator > 6,6 MEuro EMPHASIS is a participatory research project addressing native and alien pests threats (insect pests, pathogens, weeds) for a range of both natural ecosystems and farming systems (field crops, protected crops, forestry, orchards and amenity plants). The overall goal is to ensure a European food security system and the protection of biodiversity and of ecosystems services while developing integrated mechanisms of response measures (practical solutions) to predict, to prevent and to protect agriculture and forestry systems from native and alien pests threats – 22 Partners

MEDIUM SME Instrument: Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy Work Programme Coordinator = 71.429 Euro Food safety is actually one of the most burning problems in the agro- food sector. The feasibility study represents the first step to the development and commercialisation of a portable, mobile wireless device, cantilever-based nano- biosensor, to measure in field the B1, M1-aflatoxins to very low level values in animal feedstock and in the milk-chain

CROPBIOME Research and Innovation Actions: Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy Work Programme Coordinator = 5,5 MEuro Water deficiency, salinity, extreme temperatures and nutritional limitations are key determinants of plant growth and crop productivity and, when combined, constitute serious threats. The general goal of the project is to enhance the resilience and productivity of key European crops, two dicots (tomato, melon) and a monocot (barley), by providing practical solutions to mitigate the adverse effect of multiple abiotic stresses – 16 Partners

New Trail Jobs: Leonardo programme: Leonardo da Vinci focuses on vocational education and training, other than at tertiary level. It addresses both the learning and teaching needs in the sector, and is therefore aimed at all parties involved, namely trainees in vocational education, teachers and trainers, institutions and educational bodies, enterprises, associations, social partners and bodies relating to either lifelong learning or the labour market Goal: economic development, with tourism in partner regions, with requirements for vocational training as well as formal and informal learning methods for disadvantaged young people as skilled and unskilled unemployed, women and old people

New calls ? A common idea? Pillar: Societal Challenges Work Programme Year: H2020-2016-2017 Work Programme Part: Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy Call : H2020-RUR-2016-2017 Opening 4° October 2016 deadline 14° February 2017Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomyH2020-RUR-2016-2017

Specific Challenge: The modernisation of rural economies depends on the capacity of rural businesses to cooperate successfully to form efficient value chains which will deliver competitive products and services, high-quality and diverse jobs, and resilience to global economic and climate changes. The greater interest being shown in regional and local economies, resource-efficient and low carbon value chains or short supply chains provides opportunities to rethink and improve value chain organisation so as to turn specific assets into economic, environmental and social benefits, including through enhanced valorisation and optimisation of ecosystem services. There is a need to identify business models that have the most potential to empower rural communities to take advantage of these opportunities. http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opport unities/h2020/topics/5108-rur-09-2017.html
