PRINCE2 Refresh Workshop ICE BREAKER

1.Elect a leader 2.Leaders are given written ‘instructions’ 3.Leaders ‘instruct’ the group members on the task, they do not carry out the task 4.Instructions may be verbally shared only 5.Leaders may not assist in the task in any practical way 6.Once group members have completed the task, the group leader selects the ‘best’ product 7.The group must choose a name for the product which they must write on it clearly 8.One named product from each group must be handed in to the facilitators for judging. 9.Leaders may ask questions of the facilitators if they require clarification 10.There will be a prize at the end of the task TASK MANAGEMENT

 The task is to make a paper plane (group members make one each)  To make the plane:  see separate instructions TASK INSTRUCTIONS

 Facilitators answer all questions consistently and honestly and on a 1:1 basis  if the judging criteria are asked for, they should be given  On completion of the task (once planes have been handed in), facilitators ask groups what they think the assessment criteria are to win the prize  examples usually suggested are:  longest flight  neatest folds/ finish  straightest flight  Facilitators conduct some ‘test flights’  Facilitators then select a winner based on the most original and amusing name and tell this to the groups  A small prize (confectionery) is awarded to the winning group  Ask what lessons can be drawn from this task FACILITATOR INSTRUCTIONS

 Always ensure that the success criteria are clearly understood before starting any task or project  A plain and unfolded sheet of paper with the most original and amusing name on would have won  Saving a considerable amount of work!  If any group asked for and was given the success criteria – consider whether they shared the information with other groups  Consider this briefly in terms of power relationships in projects  You have also learned how to make the best paper plane in the World LEARNING FROM THIS TASK
