4  Carrie Amelia Moore Nation was an American women who was a radical member of the temperance movement, which opposed alcohol before the advent of Prohibition.  Born: November 25, 1846  Born In Garrard County, KY  Died: June 9, 1911  Died in Leavensworth, KS

5  Education: university of Central Missouri  Born : Carrie Amelia Moore in Garrard County, Kentucky  Parents: George and Mary Campbell Moore  She had a poor education and informal learning

6  Was in this reform to help alcoholics and urge personal moderation in the consumption of alcoholic beverages  Received a teaching certificate  Was president of WCTU( Woman’s Christian Temperance Union)  She started a local branch or “union” of the WCTU

7  She acted in a play called Hatchetation  She published a biweekly newsletter (The Smashing Mail)  She had a newspaper,The Hatchet  She wrote and autobiography  She was in the temperance movement

8  She was successful in seeking reform.  Carrie A. Nation was the member of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union best known for attacking saloons and other drinking establisments with a hatchet
