2. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER BEFORE TRADING PAPERS What is the literal meaning (denotation) of your name? What do people think of when they hear your name? What do you think of? (connotation) Imagery – paint me a picture, think outside the box What does your name sound like? What about when your mom says it? What about when your boyfriend/girlfriend says it? What does it taste like when you say it? What does it look like? What does it feel like? Does it hold significance for your family? Why or why not? How does that make you feel? Is it short for another name? Does the shortened version fit better than the “real” version? How does it show YOUR personality? Would another name fit you better? Why?

4. CRITERION D Vocabulary appropriate for both demonstrating your voice AND academic writing Does it sound like your words? Don’t try to be TOO fancy here! Can you choose more illustrative words? Instead of “when my mom yells at me” what about “when my mom spits out my name in a rage…” Consistent voice throughout What tone do you have? How do you feel about your name? Do you stay with that attitude throughout? No spelling errors – use spell check!!! Their, there, they’re… were, we’re… etc… Watch run-on sentences! Effectively communicates one idea throughout Do you like your name or not? Does it represent who you are (whether that is good or not?)
