2 Proposal The energy sources we chose to do are coal, hydroelectricity, and biomass. Coal power plants are going to be built outside the city so people won’t get the pollution, hydroelectric will be built around rivers, and biomass power plants will be built outside the city in open fields.

4 Advantages of Biomass Biomass is a biological material derived from living or recently living organisms. In the context of Biomass for energy, this is often used to apply to both animal and vegetable derived material. Biomass is a fancy name for material from plants and animals. Some kinds of biomass can be burned to produce energy. One common example is wood.

5 Disadvantages of Biomass Expensive Inefficient as Compared to Fossil Fuels Harmful to Environment Consume More Fuel Require More Land

6 How much electricity does Biomass produce? Turning trash into electricity. Waste to energy power plants burn trash to produce electricity. They generate enough electricity to supply 1.3 million U.S. homes.

7 Air pollution The usage of Biomass causes harmful air pollution

8 Advantages of Hydroelectricity Hydroelectricity has no air emissions and is a renewable resource, and is basically just running water. Once a dam is built, electricity can be produced at a constant rate A lake's water can be used for irrigation purposes. It does not pollute the atmosphere.

9 Disadvantages of Hydroelectricity Seasonal availability Relies on mother nature for capacity Dams are expensive

10 Advantages of Coal Generates the most electricity Cheapest source of power fuel -- half the amount of Natural gas and Solar Easy to Transport

11 Disadvantages of Coal Emits a total of 3.7 million tons of carbon dioxide Uses 1.4 million tons of coal 2.2 billion gallons of water 146,000 tons of lime stone

12 500 megawatt coal plant produces 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours per year How it works 1. Heat is created (burns coal in furnace) 2. Water turns to Steam 3. Steam turns Turbine which creates electricity 4. Then steam turns back to water to repeat the cycle

13 Rebuttal Since the coal power plant is outside the city it won’t affect the people. We are going to locate the biomass power plants outside the city in open fields. There will be more than one hydroelectric power plant so we can produce more than enough electricity.

15 Conclusion We are going to use hydroelectricity, coal, and biomass. If we place the power plants in the right places then we can generate electricity without any pollution. The advantages supplies all of Ebarts needs and the disadvantages are minor if we deal with them in a smart way.
