2 Thank you for your interest in the ExportEdge program. This information kit provides a program overview, answers to frequently asked questions as well as a simple step by step registration form for you to complete when you are ready to participate. What is the ExportEdge Program? Our unique program matches and mentors eligible individuals between the ages of 15-30 who are interested in developing export based careers with companies requiring assistance with specific export oriented projects. Since 1999 the program has been funded by the Canadian federal government through Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC) which has provided $15,000 - $20,000 for the delivery of each 6 month intern placement. Typical projects, which include both international and domestic based placements, will once again include Marketing & Sales, Business Development, Engineering, Freight Forwarding, Logistics and IT related activities. While on the program, interns will have the opportunity to receive personalized one on one mentoring from seasoned international business practitioners and to complete a skills development course designed to assist in the delivery of your specific project objectives. Who’s Involved? The program is managed by Cornerstone International, a division of Cornerstone Business Development Inc and Monkeysuit Inc with the assistance of the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT). Each partner works closely with participating companies to ensure the delivery of a program that provides real benefit and international business success. What is the Program Structure? Each program internship placement lasts 6 months The federal government will provide up to $20,000 per intern placement At the completion of the 6 month internship, host companies can decide if they wish to retain their intern full time. There is no obligation for companies to do so Companies are required to make a one time investment of $5,000.00 + HST for participation on the ExportEdge program. This fee covers many of the administrative costs associated with the delivery of the program Companies must also invest $500.00 + HST towards their intern’s completion of a FITT on-line international business course Welcome to ExportEdge

3 What is the Process? Our process for participation on the ExportEdge program has been designed to eliminate unnecessary red tape and administrative burden for companies while ensuring your needs and objectives are clearly addressed. Step 1 Company completes registration form (enclosed) Step 2 Registration is reviewed with the company by the ExportEdge team to ensure it meets with the program’s objectives and capabilities Step 3 Search for prospective candidates based on approved profile submitted is initiated by the ExportEdge team Step 4 Follow up with prospective candidates conducted by the ExportEdge team including telephone and face to face interviews. Step 5 Once appropriate candidate(s) have been identified direct face to face interviews are organized for participating companies Step 6 Participating companies interview candidate(s) and make final selection Step 7 Formal offer presented to candidate Once a candidate has accepted the internship position a mutually agreed upon start date is selected. The intern will then spend 6 months working with their host company to deliver the outlined project. During that time the selected candidate will also complete the skills development component of the program delivered through the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) as well as receive personal and professional mentoring support ExportEdge Program Process

4 ExportEdge FAQs Why am I paying $5,500 + HST? The ExportEdge program was specifically designed to be delivered on a shared cost basis. As such many of the services provided to participating companies on the ExportEdge program are not covered in the funding received through Service Canada. The fee covers both administrative support, the search process, the mentoring support and the FITT skills development. The application of the fee allows us to deliver the most effective and professional program on your behalf What if I already have an intern in mind? Individuals identified directly by a company are eligible to participate so long as they meet the intern criteria outlined by Service Canada Do I still have to pay the $5,500 + GST fee if I have already identified an appropriate intern? Yes, the fee must still be paid by companies for participation in the program What about other costs? Companies may wish to supplement the approx $3,333.00/month gross salary received by their intern through the program. This is completely at each host company’s discretion. What is a typical intern profile? Based on the last three years typical individuals Possess a university degree Speak at least two languages 1-2 years worth of work experience What if things don’t work out with my intern? While every effort is made to ensure an effective match for host employers, should it be necessary to terminate an intern while on the program the ExportEdge team will find a replacement free of charge so long as the termination takes place within the first month of the internship. The replacement intern would then complete the remaining 5 months of the placement What about business expenses? Host companies are responsible for any and all business expenses incurred by the intern on their behalf When does my intern complete the FITT skills component The FITT skills development component is delivered over the course of the 6 month internship. The courses are available on-line and it is expected that interns will complete the course in their own free time Can I apply for more than one intern? Yes, multiple placements are available so long as the projects fit within the scope of the program’s objectives Still have questions? Please feel free to contact the office at 905-399-2574 We would be happy to answer any additional questions you may have or set-up a time to visit you to discuss the program in greater detail
