3 Presentation This must last for 90 seconds – no less You are allowed only brief bullet-point notes or pictures 5 bullet-points at most Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

5 Discussion This must also last for 90 seconds – no less It must follow on from your presentation and be on the same subject You must discuss with your teacher what you plan to talk about – that way he/she will know what to ask you Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

6 Discussion You should know your discussion answers as well as you know your presentation …..and you should be preparing them NOW Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

7 General Conversation This lasts for 6 (Foundation) or 8 (Higher) minutes It will revolve around 2 or 3 topics Your teacher has to stick to the topics chosen by the Exam Board and does not know them in advance You need to have prepared something to say on each of the topics – including a few “special” phrases designed to show off what you know Will you be ready? 8 The Topics: Personal Relationships Talk about yourself Talk about friends and family Describe a friend Say how you and your family get on Talk about pets, brothers, sisters etc. Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

9 The Topics: Education/Work Describe the school day Say what you like, don’t like at school and why Talk about your future plans, Sixth Form, uni, jobs Describe your work experience, part-time job etc. Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

10 The Topics: The Environment Describe where you live Talk about going into town last week/next week Talk about pollution, rubbish etc. Say why you like/don’t like your area Say what there is for tourists in your area Are you ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

11 The Topics: Leisure Talk about going out with your mates (last weekend/next weekend) Talk about your hobbies and pastimes eg sport Talk about cinema/TV Describe a favourite or recent film/book Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

12 The Topics: Home Life Describe your daily routine Describe your house & room Talk about what you do around the house Talk about food, cooking (who does it/favourites etc) Talk about going out with family Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

13 The Topics: Tourism Describe a past holiday and.. Talk about plans for a future holiday Advantages/disadvantages of holiday with family/friends What is there for tourists in this area? Where/how would you holiday if you were rich Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

15 The Exam: Role Play Presentation – 90 seconds Discussion – 90 seconds Conversation – 3 topics, 6/8 minutes Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.

16 Use past and future – no need to be brilliant at grammar just learn some key phrases to use Give opinions – again learn some key phrases and use them Don’t wait to be asked – try to keep talking, the teacher will not stop you Will you be ready? GCSE Speaking – prepare for success.
