5 Children organised in ability groups, these are extremely flexible and will adjust according to the work. Children will have experiences that expose them to Narrative Writing, Non Fiction Writing and Poetry through thematic units. Children will also develop their literacy skills through mixed KS1 Phonics groups, personalised spellings and handwriting practise. Equal ratio reading:writing and a strong thread of speaking and listening across the curriculum. Guided reading on Wednesdays. BIG Writing on Thursdays

6 Children organised in ability groups, again flexible. Children will experience using and applying number knowledge, handling data and understanding number. They will also develop their understanding of shape and measures in a practical manner. Strong elements of problem solving across the curriculum. You can help at home: Number bonds for 10 / 20 / 100 + and – facts for each number to 20 2, 5 and 10 times tables Time and money in real life context

8 Spellings will be sent home weekly. Children progress through a series of lists, moving on to the next when achieving at least 8/10 in Friday’s spelling ‘test’. Weekly maths homework will follow the work we are doing in school; so is therefore used for consolidation and revision. Notes on homework i.e. due dates etc will be printed in the front of homework books for your information. Reading at home; the key is little and often!

9 Hear your child read aloud encouraging fluency, expression and intonation. Ask them to make predictions; ‘What do you think will happen next?’ Ask questions about the text, encouraging comprehension. Recount the story with your child. Reading with your child

10 SAT’s are administered in May. Your child will have had exposure to and familiarisation with SAT’s papers before this time. Mathematics Level 1- tasks Level 2 and Level 3 - tests Literacy Reading Level 1- task Level 2 – task and test Level 3 - test Writing Two pieces of writing and a spelling test Science No tests- instead on going assessment. Level judgements are based on teacher assessment and not ‘tests’ alone.
