8 Tolerances Nutrition Labelling

9 Commission may adopt implementing acts concerning precision of the declared values (tolerances) – Recital #59 Commission may adopt, by means of delegated acts, conversion factors for the vitamins and minerals in order to calculate more precisely the content of such vitamins and minerals in foods. Those conversion factors shall be added to Annex XIV. – Article 31

15 Basic considerations Maximum amounts for vitamins and minerals should be taken under consideration – Pose a health risk – M-S free to adopt national measures measured value should be within the tolerances around the declared value during the entire shelf life.

21 Example Nutrition declaration for sugars 8.5g per 100g (food with no claims) According to rounding rules this value could be declare if real value was calculated from 8.45 to 8.54 g Lower tolerance = lower tolerance value – tolerance for sugars Lower tolerance = 8.45-2 = 6.45g = 6.5 g (rounding) Accordingly Upper tolerance = 11g If official control result is sugar content 11g then it should be investigated whether the decline raises penalties or not
