4 Vietnam America’s involvement in Vietnam began in 1950. This was the beginning of America’s longest and most controversial war in history. The US provided French with massive economic and military support to fight Communism.

5 Vietnam War… Ho Chi Minh was leader of Communist Party in Vietnam. He helped form the Vietminh and supported the Vietcong. Their goal was to win independence from foreign rule (French).

14 Johnson Increases US Involvement Nation strongly supported Containment policy in Vietnam in the beginning. By end of 1965, 180,000 Americans sent to Vietnam. Grew to 500,000 in 1967. 1965 poll showed 61% Americans supported the war. Have you ever heard the expression “home field advantage?” Let’s see.

Go to Washington D.C. and protest against the war by demanding U.S. troops return home. Be a conscientious objector and escape to Canada. Write a letter(minimum 2 paragraphs) to your family explaining what you have elected to do and why.
