Port of Portland set to be nation’s largest hardwood chip handling port Underpins 4,000 direct jobs (1,000 additional at full harvest). Long-term industry (to 2050).

Energy Wealth of clean energy resources. 550KV Portland power line. Carbon pricing legislation to trigger an est. $100 billion in renewable energy by 2050. $9 billion clean energy projects flagged for our region in next 5 years. 5,000 + construction jobs.

Energy – gas-fired energy 3 gas-fired power stations over 10 years: Mortlake 1,500MW (Origin) Stage 1 complete – connected to grid Shaw River 1,500MW (Santos) Awaiting investment decision. Tarrone 920 MW (AGL). Planning approval granted. Capacity to power 3 million + homes

Energy – wind energy One third of all Victoria’s operational turbines are in the Great South Coast. Half of all Victoria’s approved turbines are in the Great South Coast.

Energy – wind energy (cont…) Of our $9b energy projects, $7b are wind. Construction requires 30 million tonnes of materials = extra 1 million truck movements. In Moyne Shire alone, 19 wind farms (1055 turbines) are under application. Left: 56-m rotor blade en route to Macarthur Wind Farm – largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere.
