14 Oman Logistic Industry – Key facts
Oman’s logistics industry is one of the main non-oil economic sectors and contributed 4.9 percent to GDP in 2015 Amongst all freight activities in Oman, sea transport is the predominant mode, accounting for more than 80 percent of freight in Oman handled by Sohar and Salalah ports Sea freight is likely to grow by 4.8 percent per cent in 2016, driven by the increasing intra-region GCC trade and due to transshipment demand from Asia, Europe, and Africa Increase in population of 2.02% YOY and tourism 7.4% YOY increasing demand for logistics Construction of a new link of a 680-km road between Oman and KSA will increase transport efficiencies Increase in the road network internally within Oman and externally (with connections to the UAE and KSA) As international trade gains momentum with the expansion of cargo handling capacities in major airports, Oman is likely to witness a steady upward growth in air freight in 2016. The Oman transportation and logistics market presents a tremendous growth opportunity for large integrated service providers that also have a significant presence in the global freight forwarding business

15 Existing Warehousing and Distribution Facilities
The total registered warehousing and distribution facilities space around Muscat is estimated to be about 7.6 million square meters (2012) A handful of leading companies classified as logistics service providers offering warehousing facility/service. Logistics is mainly managed in house by most companies are represents a good business opportunity for the 3PL companies.

16 Demand for SABLA According to a survey carried out in 2014 more than 80% of the LSP supported the location of SABLA and demonstrated strong willingness to move at the right cost. Most of the LSPs having their warehousing facilities within Muscat city are potential users of the SABLA. Majority of the manufacturing / importing & trading companies within Oman are willing to contract out logistics if it makes business sense.
