1 2012/13 MOE Postgraduate Scholarships

2 Who can apply? (A) Education Officers All graduate education officers in the 3 career tracks: Leadership, Senior Specialist and Teaching Tracks. On completion of course, officers will apply postgraduate training to areas of need in MOE. (B) Members of Public

3 Scholarships are tenable overseas or locally, through coursework or research, in the following categories:- (1)Teaching Areas (Content / Curriculum & Assessment) (2)Non-Teaching / Specialised Areas

4 Areas of Study (A) Teaching Areas Art Economics English Language & Literature Humanities Mathematics Mother Tongue Music Physical Education Science

5 Areas of Study (B) Non-Teaching / Specialised Areas Educational Psychology & Guidance –Educational Psychology –Guidance & Counselling Educational Research & Management –Psychometrics –Research / Assessment & Evaluation –Statistics

6 Areas of Study Special Areas –Character Development –Civics and Moral / Values Education –Early Childhood Education –Gifted Education –Learning Sciences and Educational Technology –Special Education

7 Areas of Study Public Administration –General Management Other Areas –General Curriculum and Teaching –Special Education

8 Duration Overseas/Local Full-time Masters/PhD The award for full-time Masters programme is generally for 1 year and 3 years for a PhD. They are for studies commencing in Yr 2013. Note: For Masters courses that require more than a year, officers will be on half-pay and half-allowance after the 1 st year, for up to one year. This is based on minimum duration to complete the programme. For PhD courses, officers need to apply for PDL.

9 Terms of PGS Award Salary and other allowances payable whilst on a training award (for serving education officers only); Return economy air passage for scholar and his/her spouse, where applicable; Tuition and other approved fees; Maintenance allowance, where applicable; Book allowance The above terms are subject to change and to prevailing regulations governing officers sent on training awards.

10 Eligibility Criteria for PGS Applicants must: –be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents –have a good degree –have at least 3 years' trained working experience in education or a relevant field –have demonstrated very good performance Satisfying these conditions does not automatically qualify applicants for the scholarship.

11 Conditions of Award Successful applicants for the full-time overseas and local scholarships will be required to sign a bond for a period of 3 years (Masters) or 6 years (PhD) upon completion of the course. If an officer is already under government bond, he will be required to serve out the existing bond and then the new bond consecutively.

12 Deployment of MOE PGS Awardees Pre-Course Deployment PGS awardees teaching in schools will be required to serve a short stint of 4-8 months in MOE HQ prior to the commencement of their studies. The pre-course HQ stint is meant to provide exposure to HQ level work and latest education policy developments. Principals, Vice-Principals, Lead Teachers and Senior Teachers will remain in schools until they leave for their studies.

13 Deployment of MOE PGS Awardees Post-Course Deployment Centrally managed by HR Strategy and Leadership Division and dependent on organization needs at that point in time. Generally, officers will be posted to a Division in MOE HQ, where they could apply and contribute in areas of work what they have learnt from their postgraduate studies. The HQ posting will be for a period of at least 2 years. Officers who have served a HQ stint of least 2 years prior to departing for their studies may be considered for deployment back to schools after their studies. For officers on the specialist track, they will be deployed back to their respective HQ Division.
