10 W-K Handbook & Policies PLEASE READ THROUGH EACH YEAR AS THERE ARE ALWAYS CHANGES AND NEW POLICY ADDITIONS!!!

11 Student Athletes & Fine Artists 1.You represent our school and our community 2.Participation is an honor & a privilege, not a right 3.Good sportsmanship is necessary at all times 4.Adhere to the MSHSL Code of Conduct year round

12 1.Encourage all student athletes and fine artists – Be supportive 2.Practice good sportsmanship at all times 3.No negative remarks directed at coaches, advisors, players, officials, or any other participants 4.Spectators that fail to act in accordance are subject to the loss of the privilege of attendance Spectators

13 1. All paperwork must be turned in before allowed to practice: A. Physical documentation B. Eligibility forms C. Travel Release document w/ Emergency Contact Information D. Weight Room Waiver E. Fees 2. We also expect our student athletes and fine artists to: A. Attend preseason meeting with parent/guardian B. Attend preseason coaches and advisors meeting with parent/guardian C. Turn in signed concussion test waiver and complete testing if necessary Extra Paperwork is available on the back table, in the office, or online Paperwork

14 1.Athletic Fees: A. High School = $75 B. Junior High = $50 2.Fine Arts Fees: A. High School = $35 B. Junior High = $30 3.Fees are nonrefundable unless you have a doctors note prior to 25% of the season completed 4.Fees can be transferred within the same season within the first week Fees

15 1.Students absent from school will not participate unless pre-approved A. Remember 8:30 deadline 2.Please provide verification of appointments 3.Students absent any part of the day due to illness will not be allowed to participate 4.Skipping class = No participation 5. Not participating in class = No participation 6.Students may participate if marked tardy Attendance

16 1.Follow bus safety rules at all times A. Stay seated at all times B. Keeping noise levels down C. Keep hands, feet, and objects to self D. No suckers, gum, or sunflower seeds E. Drinks must have a re-sealable top F. Make sure all of your stuff and garbage is picked up 2.Students must ride the bus to all events unless prearranged with activity supervisor and coach/advisor 3.Students are expected to ride the bus home unless signed out by a preapproved individual on the transportation log with a coach/advisor present 4.Students must wait for a ride in front of the school 5.Students should contact a ride home a few minutes prior to returning to school from an away event Transportation

17 1.Student-Athlete: You are a student first; athlete second 2.Any student that is failing or falling behind will be reported to after school Academic Study Hall A. It is mandatory B. Students remain in academic study hall until their grade(s) is above passing and all work is completed C. Teachers monitor grades every Wednesday & Friday and make referrals accordingly 3.A failing grade at the end of the quarter = 1 game/activity suspension within 48 hours of grades being posted Remember – Ask for help before you get to this point. W-K is filled with people that are willing to help all of our students. If you take pride in your work and are not afraid to ask for help, your grades will be just fine! Grades

18 1.Students serve detention prior to attending practices and events A. Detention can occur during lunch and after school B. Exceptions will be made on away events when the bus departs early C. On home events students will still serve detention Detentions

19 1. Report all injuries to the coach/advisor immediately/same day 2. Coaches/Advisors will file an injury report with Denise within 24 hours of injury 3. Coaches/Advisors will also contact activity supervisor within 24 hours of injury 4. Trainer available on Monday’s and Thursday’s A. Students should sign up with Denise that morning or before. Parents can also call to sign-up their child. Injuries

20 1.Keep the locker rooms clean and organized 2.Respect all property both at home and away events 3.Strongly advised that students have a lock on their locker room locker 4.No items of value should ever be left unlocked 5.Get in and get out – On many nights our locker rooms are used by numerous individuals – Don’t waste time Lockers

21 Participants: 1.Talk with your coaches and advisors, let them know if you are struggling with something, and ask what you can do to get better 2.Do not question playing time or participation time 3.Let them know well in advance if you are going to be gone Parents: 1.Talk with your child and always be positive 2.Keep positive and open lines of communication with the coaches and advisors 3.Select appropriate times to talk with the coaches and advisors (not before or during practices and not before, during, or after events) 4.If need be, contact me and we can discuss having an encompassing meeting Communication

22 1.Uniforms are the responsibility of the student athlete or fine artist A. If they are damaged or lost the student and his/her parent will be charged replacement costs 2.Respect all of the equipment and facilities both at school and away events A. Remember, you always represent our school and community B. Equipment costs these days are not cheap. Destroying equipment on purpose or due to lack of responsibility will result in replacement fees for the student and his/her parent C. Only water is allowed in the gym 3.Clean up after yourself both at school and away events A. Pick up water bottles after practices and events B. Pick up extra clothing C. Leave it better than you found it Other Housekeeping Items
