How do ICT help improve education? to facilitate the sharing of information and provide educational opportunities in a rural community used to communicate fast access. store, and manage information to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of education benefits both traditional and online education institutions provides teachers an endless choice of multimedia, software, applications and devices to create more exciting, interactive lessons. resources available for students to search anywhere with an Internet connection.

4 b. Are ICT useful in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)? Why enhancing the learning experience and equipping students to join an increasingly global workforce more flexible schedules makes education available to a wider range of learners. assists adult learners, with full-time jobs and family responsibilities to obtain professional certifications or college degrees. provide adapted lessons for students with disabilities can empower educators to design audio-visual cultivate a teamwork. Providing information to parents to stay involved in their children's education provides an even greater avenue for interaction between teacher and students.

5 English teachers have the opportunity to engage more students and lead a more involved, energetic class. The use of computers in English language classroom is useful for both teachers and learners. Currently, there are numerous software application programs available such as vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation programs, spelling check utilities, electronic workbooks, reading and writing programs, and different learning packages to assist instructors in creating tutorial exercises to enhance their English language courses. the role of the instructor together with the role of the technology can lead to advanced learning results (Sharma, 2009).

7 improving the Speaking by tools like: Use of Internet Voice Chatting Use of Speech Synthesis Programs improving the Writing by tools like: Use of Computers Writing E-mails English language teachers should encourage their students to use technology in developing the language skills. Educational institutions should modernize their technical instruction capabilities by using new equipments and laboratories for supporting the teaching process.

8 Web 2.0 Technologies for Educators Are online tools and resources have made it easier for teachers to instruct students, and for students to collaborate with those teachers and with other students and parents. these “web 2.0″ teaching tools, help you to stay organized, and often take up little space on a computer. some of these applications are web-based, which means that they can be accessed from any computer. a web 2.0 site may allow users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators of user- generated content in a virtual community. examples of web 2.0 include social networking, sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, hosted services and web applications,

9 WIKIS What's a Wiki? A wiki is a collaborative website where the users can contribute. Features of a wiki: quick definition: webpage with an edit button easy to correct mistakes easy to allow people to contribute does not prevent the making of mistakes “wisdom of crowds” – collaborative (wikipedia) “notification” – asked to be notified when changes occur – that’s how stuff gets fixed in 2 minutes. web 2.0 applications work with old computers - no need to spend money on software

10 BLOGS A blog : is a discussion or informational site published on the world wide web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts"). a majority are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message. blogging can be seen as a form of social networking service. indeed, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs, but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers. many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries; others function more as online brand advertising of a particular individual or company. a typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

11 Social Networking Social Networking Services are building online communities of people who share interests and/or activities. Most social network services are web based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant messaging services. The main types of social networking services are those which contain category divisions, means to connect with friends and a recommendation system linked to trust Famous social networking sites include: Facebook, MySpace and Twitter
