2 Regulations on Apparel Labeling  US law – all apparel sold in US contain 包含 permanent labels of the “ Textile Fiber Products Identification Act and the Care Labeling Rule ”  Fiber Content 成分 Identification – fiber content affects 影響 its appearance 外觀, ease of care 洗滌 清潔, comfort 舒適度, durability 耐久度, and cost Accurate within 3% tolerance 容忍度 Generic name of fiber in both English or non-English name: Wolle for wool, polyamide for nylon; soie for silk Trademark 商標 : polyester is a generic name/ Dacron is a trademark for polyester fibers produced by Dupont. Viscose for rayon fibers

3 Regulations on Apparel Labeling  Country-of-Origin Identification: where garment was produce 製作 Luxury imported – Made in France, Made in Italy – cotton from Egypt, leathers from Italy, wool from Britain However, country of origin is not a valid 確鑿 clue 線索 to quality  Made in U.S.A. Or Made in U.S.A. of imported fabric  Made in (name of country), finished in U.S.A.  Made in (name of country)  Made in (name of country where assembled) of U.S. materials

4 Regulations on Apparel Labeling  Manufacturer Identification – all garments must contain labels identifying their manufacturer.  For imports, the name of the “ Importer of record ” is substituted for the manufacturer  See in apparel label as “ RN (registered number) or WPL (wool products labeling)  傳閱美國 apparel labels  比較 US and Taiwan ’ s apparel labels

9 Regulations on Apparel Industry Business Practices  Occupational Safety and Health Act Working condition- fire exits, clean and uncluttered work and walk area, adequate lighting, adequate ventilation to ensure air quality Ergonomics – the study of people in relationship to their working environment (p. 28 for figure 2-4)  Fair Labor Standards Act To pay minimum wage, and overtime (40 hours) wage; law prohibits child labor  Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Regulations Race, color, religion, sex, national origin, and age  Immigration Reform and Control Act Either US citizens or US aliens authorized to work  Environmental Protection Agency Regulations Pollution Prevention Act; Clean Air Act; Clean Water Act

10 Voluntary 隨意的 Label Information  Trademarks and Brand 商標及品牌 Brands; Licensing; counterfeit goods, knock-offs  Warranties and Certifications 保證 Written warranty Cotton, Woolmark, Gore-tex for the certifications  Union Made 工會 The workers are union members  Size 尺碼表 suggests to consumers the suitability of a garment for their body dimensions
