She was born in Melbourne. She was the eldest of seven children. She had a good education and her family financial difficulties. she had to work and gave all the money to her family when she was fourteen. MARY MACKILLOP’S CHILDHOOD

She began as a governess. Then she worked as a clerk in Melbourne A carer of her uncle’s children A teacher in Portland WORKING LIFE

She felt a religious calling. She decided to open the first St Joseph school for poor children. And became known as sister. The students had to only paid if they could afford it. MARY MET FATHER JULIAN WOODS

SShe had to beg for money on the street. TThe Catholic church leaders didn’t like begging. AAnd several bishops wanted to take over the control of sisters in the dioceses but she refused to change her ways. SShe was suffering ill health for most of her life. DIFFICULT TIMES FOR MARY

They established the first permanent house for orphanages, homeless shelters and refuges for ex- prisoners and ex- prostitutes. After that she established the schools, houses around the Australia and New Zealand. MARY AND THE EARLY SISTERS

She never became bitter against the Church leaders that had opposed her ways. She was forgiving and gave love to every one. She died peacefully on August 8,1909 MARY MACKILLOP’S WHOLE LIFE
