1 14 DAY EXPEDITION PROJECT Will you survive a trip to a non- developed, uninhabited location in this world?

2 BACKGROUND  You and your group members have been chosen because of your survival skills, abilities, and background to take part in researching a remote area of the world that few have explored before.  Before your trip you must compile lists on what the environment will provide and what you need to bring.  Your research, skills, and tools will determine if you will survive your journey.

3 YOU WILL:  Pick out of the Environment Card deck the area you and your group members will travel to.  Your first task will be to research where in the world this environment is located. Develop some background knowledge about the area. Is it near anywhere you have traveled?  Does your heritage come from a similar area? If they do your family might be able to help on this project!

8 INDIVIDUAL BRAINSTORM 1. Does your cultural background, your family, or you have any experience in a similar region with similar climate? If so, do you have any personal pictures, stories, or artifacts that you could share with the class? 1. Since you will be traveling with two of your classmates, what are some talents or skills that you possess that may help to ensure survival? (examples: You have hunted in the past, know how to use a bow and arrow, have camped before, able to tie boyscott knots, know how to cook etc)

9 GROUP BRAINSTORM 1. What will the environment provide that will meet your basic needs of living? 2. What items will you need to bring to make the resources provided by the environment safe to use? 3. What items will you need to bring that are necessary for survival but are not provided by the environment? 4. What items will you need that are not necessary but would be useful in this environment? 5. What items would you bring that are not necessary for survival but are important because of your culture, religion, family, or personal values?

10 NEXT STEPS:  Take your lists and sort them into four categories that your group decides.  As a group decide how you would like to present. Your options are:  Create a power point  Create a poster  Create a Glogster.com interactive poster  Or another avenue that is approved by your teacher

11 MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE:  Pictures  Background information about your environment  Research or quotes from people that traveled areas that are similar to yours  Video clips  What roles each of you had on the trip (hunter, cook etc)  If possible any personal pictures, stories, artifacts, or experiences that you or your family may have relating to your environment.

12 PRESENTATIONS  You will present your project.  Everyone will speak  You will be graded on a rubric  Your survival fate will be determined by how well you were prepared for the trip, what you packed, the skills you possessed, and your overall knowledge of the area.  CHOOSE TO LIVE!
