2 WHY MANY PEOPLE OPPOSE WOMEN LEARNING MARTIAL ARTS? Societal views women’s bodies are weaker and are less capable of protecting themselves Public worry that women will be easily hurt Even though many females turn to traditional weapons like guns or knives instead of learning some sort of self-defense, many times the weapons become useless against an attack.

3 WHY LEARN A MARTIAL ART? 90% of all rape victims are female 1/6 American women will be sexually assaulted (17.7 million) 93% of sexual assaults was done by someone the victim knew 50% of all rape is done within a one mile radius of the victims home 80% of rape victims are under the age of 30

4 HOW CAN LEARNING A MARITAL ART HELP? women are able to react quickly because of muscle memory to defend themselves for any situation as a recovering tool for women who have experienced an assault Females can reduce their chances of rape by 96% When put under pressure, the student will be more comfortable and prepared to face a real attacker

5 HOW CAN MARTIAL ARTS AID IN RECOVERY? Regain Self-esteem and confidence uniform creates equality between the males and females Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the uniforms have long sleeves and pants to cover up the body Many women often have body image issues due to their tragic event. With the help of martial arts women have a better kinesthetic awareness leading to becoming more confortable with their body.

6 WHY IS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU RECOMMENDED? used by a smaller, weaker person against a bigger and stronger opponent practiced on the ground, and the students are taught how to use techniques to escape any position martial art to use for girls that are in a position that they could potentially be raped learning how to apply them in a intense situation where they practice all the techniques they have learned against another student

7 IN CONCLUSION Martial arts is a great recovering tool for women who have experienced an assault and even though women depend on weapons for personal protection, learning some sort of martial arts or self-defense can be more effective as protection against a physical attack than a weapon.
