3. 1820 Missouri Compromise: In an effort to maintain the balance between free and slave states, Maine,formerly part of Massachusetts, is admitted as a free state. 1822 Denmark Vesey, an enslaved African American carpenter who had purchased his freedom, plans a slave revolt with the intent to lay siege on Charleston.

23. Information What happened was Nat Turner and a group of revolting African Americans organized a rebellion and revolted by killing any white people in a ten mile area. He ended up with a total of 55 white people dead. He was sentenced to death on November 11 th, 1831 and was hanged.

24. Conclusion All of these events were stepping stones to the recognizing the rights of humans which will eventually lead to the Civil War. All the events and people we mentioned had a role in the eventual freedom of African Americans.
