MFW and IPM Update Jim Zagel 5/14/2008

2 Vertical Broken Fork After mounting new filament we attempted to align it to parallel the central shaft and weakened the arm sufficiently for it to break when test flown before reinstallation!

5/14/20083 What Are We Doing Now? We Have a spare MI Can –Mounted motor and resolver –New forks are being assembled –Tension to failure –Induce vibrations –Have an 8” Quartz Window –Make a vacuum capable test unit.

5/14/20084 Work In Progress Until new forks are available, testing on Tev fork –Mount filament –Tension to failure (scaled) –Motion parameters –Induce Vibrations Checked Motion on MI Vertical during last tunnel access. –Smoothed motion profile –Watch for any irregularities, saw none.

5/14/20085 Tension Testing Using Martin Hu’s calculations, we tested with a piezo device on a pre-tensioned filament. Get consistent results on frequency of vibrations to tension in filament.
