1 Junior Requirements Lincoln High School NHS 2015-2016 School Year

2 Junior requirements  Attend all monthly NHS Meetings  If you are absent, you MUST meet with Mrs. Dill before or after school the week of the scheduled meeting  Project Leader - 5 hours minimum  Tutor- 5 hours minimum  Volunteer for NHS Sponsored projects – 15 hours minimum –  (includes 5 hour project leader)  Total Volunteer hours for your Junior Year – 15 – 5 project leader; 10 volunteer

3 Project leader  Each Junior must put in at least 5 hours as a Project Leader.  You can work with a group of people – 5 maximum, unless a Huge project like Holiday Meal Project  Each project must be approved by Mrs. Dill and Mr. Valitchka, and be well developed – think of what needs to happen to get it going  Projects should be presented at a NHS Meeting, prior to the month your project will take place  Your presentation should include what you need help with;  This is how other members get their volunteer hours  At your presentation you should have sign-up sheets, materials needed, etc.

4 Project leader – cont’d  The requirements you establish for members getting hours, must be reasonable and approved by Mrs. Dill  For example – you shouldn’t get 2 hours of service for bringing in a package of paper plates for a bake sale.  When completed, your Project leader sheet must be signed by an adult who can verify your leader hours.  You need to complete all parts of your project before you receive your hours.  Project Leader record sheets are BLUE and are available from Mrs. Dill – top basket on the wall near banner  Completed sheets go in the bottom basket

5 Tutoring – Junior Requirements  You need to put in five tutoring hours.  Tutoring can take place in many different places  At Lincoln – all of you excel in a subject area; is there someone you could help?  At other schools – elementary schools or junior highs are always looking for older students to tutor younger children – a great opportunity to mentor young people!  At home – if you have younger siblings who need help with homework, this is a great opportunity.  All tutoring hours must be signed by you, and an adult who can verify that you did the tutoring.

6 Service Hours  You need to complete at least 10 volunteer hours  The hours need to be on NHS sponsored projects  Volunteer record sheets are BROWN and are available from Mrs. Dill – top basket on the wall near banner  Completed sheets go in the bottom basket

7 Project Ideas  Should be something that helps a community group  Does not have to raise money  Consider a project to benefit students in another school  Elementary schools often have after-school programs that need volunteers  Your NHS essay should help guide you as you develop your project.  Brainstorming – work with a group; look through NHS magazines to develop some ideas????
