2 Most deserts get under 9.5 inches of rain a year but The Great Sandy Desert gets more rain than most deserts it gets over 10 or more inches of rain a year. The Great Sandy Desert is home to the many different species of plants and animals that live their.

3  Deserts are defined as being very dry, not all of them are very dry and not sandy.  Most desert soils are called aridisols (dry soil)

4  Dry deserts climates are formed by high pressure zones in which cold air descends.  Instead of releasing rain the heat from the ground evaporates the water before it comes down.  Approximately 1 in. (2.5cm) of rain falls in dry deserts per year.

5  Pictures  Spinifex Grass is very prickly and covers most of the red sand and the Rockies.  Bloodwood trees have sap that looks like blood  Paperbark trees can grow to be 75- foot tall or more. They are found primarily in the wetlands of the Great Sandy Desert. It is called the paperback tree because the bark resembles paper.  Coral Cactus are about 1.5 meters high and no flowers are formed. They are in shrub form.  Hudson Pears are 1.5 meters high and are 4cm wide. They are in shrub form.

6  Dwarf Bearded Dragon is a 15 inch long lizard with spines on his throat and underside.  Dingo’s are typically an auburn color they are very wild dogs. Sometimes 3 feet in length but one of the largest dingo’s 5 to 6 feet.  The Flying Fox Bat is mainly is a very large bat they fly in groups of a million or more. Fox Bats are a reddish brown with translucent wings.  Red Kangaroo’s is one of the largest kangaroo’s in Australia. A male can be 6 feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds. The female is substantially smaller. Red Kangaroos can jump at least 30 feet in the air.  The Desert Death Adder is one of the deadliest snakes in the world. They can measure from 27 to 39 inches (70 to 100 cm). One bite from this snake and the victim will have muscle weakness the victim will be paralyzed and die.

7  An example of competition is when Eagles and rattlesnakes compete for birds.  An example of adaptation owls that live in the desert have to adapt to survive so their beaks have to change.
