Standard 10 B Hannah and Raven

Vascular & Nonvascular plants VASCULAR PLANTS Have true conducting tissues, leaves, stems, and roots. Majority of plants are vascular NONVASCULAR PLANTS Lack conducted tissues, leaves, stems and roots. Require water for fertilization and must grow in seasonally moist habitats.

Vascular & Nonvascular plants

Vascular plants- a plant that has a well developed system of conducting tissues to transport water, sugars and mineral salts which is carried through a tube. Nonvascular plants- any various plant that lacks tissue and requires water for fertilization and grow in seasonally moist habitats.

Angiosperms & Gymnosperms Angiosperms Flowers Pods & fruit hold seeds Leaves Branches (produces fruit) Flowering trees Gymnosperms Cones Needles Branches (is not protected by fruit) Coniferous trees Naked seeds

Angiosperms & Gymnosperms

Reproduction of angiosperms & gymnosperms In gymnosperms the cone is the reproductive part and pollen is the male reproductive part. In angiosperms the pistil is the female reproductive structure.

Angiosperms These flowering plants are divided into two major types. Monocots & Dicots Monocots- grass like angiosperms, have only a single first leaf. Dicots- include all of the non-monocot angiosperms, have paired first leaves.

Monocots Basically monocots are the most important organism on Earth. Corn, barley, wheat and rice are the most important foods on earth and come from monocots. Bananas, fruit, sugar cane, pineapples, dates all come from monocots also.

Dicots Dicots have around three hundred families of flowering plants. Dicots are the second major group. Beverages like cocoa, coffee, oil seeds, woody plants, different flowers and fibers come from the dicots.

Gymnosperms Meiosis in male cones produce a male gametophyte (a.k.a- a pollen grain). Then the gametophyte is carried by air currents to the female gametophyte.

Pollination of angiosperms & gymnosperms The male gametophyte is made of two cells, the two wing-like structures on the pollen grain is then carried by the wind to pollen, then it is transferred to the seed cone the tube cell grows to the pollen making a pollen tube. Then the whole male gametophyte is transferred from the pollen to the seed cone.

Pollination of angiosperms & gymnosperms

Questions Which process is prevented from occurring when the stamens are removed from an angiosperm?

??? A.self pollination B.cross pollination C.sexual reproduction D.asexual reproduction

ANSWER Self-pollination Which is the transfer of pollen from an anther to a stigma of the same flower.
