2.  Security issues that are often faced when using a Net connected desktop or laptop computer are to be anticipated on the mobile Web.  There are concerns of apps harvesting information from users phones. Apps often ask users for broad permissions to access the phone’s file system.

3.  The economics of mobile internet access can be frustrating. Mobile carriers charge an additional monthly fee on top of the voice plans that are offered to users.  Typically these fees add $20 - $30 per month to one’s phone bill.  Most mobile plans are limited to a set amount of data traffic per month.

4.  Those who live in metropolitan areas are able to choose from a number of mobile providers, but mobile coverage is usually limited or nonexistent in areas with little mobile coverage.  Libraries have been advocates for more rural broadband penetration as it relates to mobile data.

5.  Describes the internet as a level playing field for any and all data traffic.  However, on the mobile web net neutrality is not as clear cut.  In the age of streaming video, wireless net neutrality has become an issue. Google and Verizon have decided that because of the FCC’s refusal to rule on net neutrality, they’ve decided to make their own pact as it concerns the transfer of information to one’s mobile device.

6.  Processing speed and efficiency will grow, allowing mobile devices to approach a level currently associated with desktop computers.  Mobile bandwidth will increase in availability and speed.  Libraries must use platform-agnostic web standards, and demand the same from vendors.  Librarians must advocate the use of mobile broadband access and net neutrality with the same enthusiasm shown for wired broadband.
