1 Formation and Competence Building of University Academic Developers (Sept 1. 2015 - August 31. 2019) Funded by The Research Council of Norway (RCN) The starting point for the project (…2012) How universities may teach values, beliefs, and moral responsibilities to uphold the public good. Universities are entrusted with responsibility to provide society with highly skilled professionals, citizens and leaders, who work for both individual and public interests. In turn, a university’s priorities will strongly influence the formation and competence building of both staff and students.

2 Formation and Competence Building of University Academic Developers  The FINNUT COMPETENCE PROJECT (2014-2023): Build research competence and enhance “users” participation in the research and competence building  This project’s focus: T hose who teach the university teachers and guide educational leadership – the academic developers.

3 Objectives 1research literature on academic development 2the articulated values and aspirations of five universities 3how university aspirations are interpreted by academic developers 4how academic developers in five universities believe their values, goals and aspirations change in the course of their work 5how academic developers enact their values, goals, and aspirations 6new teaching practices that encourage education for the public good 7how a virtual community of practice of academic developers and researchers might increase pedagogical repertoires and research 8a new research method based on interactive communication/deliberations

4 Design Research and competence development  Formation 6 partners (UiO, UiT, UU, OU, UNC-CH, UCD) Develop cyber space «place» for communication and development to support the development of a «community of practice» of researchers and academic developers 4 Phases: – Document analyses and individual and focus group interviews, observations at five universities – Interventions at UiT and UiO (action learning and research?) – National and international dissemination Deliberative communication as a research method

5 At the end of the project All future generations speak of staff and student formation through deliberative communication and
