2 APTITUDE (n.)- ability to learn or understand quickly Synonym: Understanding Antonym: None The aptitude of Lob was unusual because he was able to travel 400 miles to be able to visit Sandy.

3 ATTENTIVE (adj.)- give attention to something; also being considerate of others. Synonym: Considerate Antonym: Disregarding Sandy’s father was very attentive when he was listening to Mr. Don talk on the phone.

4 BANISH (v.)- to force to leave a country or place; exile Synonym: Exile Antonym: Invite Sandy’s parents banished Lob from their household the first couple times that he traveled to their house.

5 BARRICADE (n.)- a temporary structure put up to block passage; an obstacle or barrier (v.)- to block an opening or passage Synonym: Obstacle Synonym: Block Antonym: None Antonym: Allow In his travels Lob might have reached a barricade the he injured himself on when he jumped over it.

6 GUSTO (n.)- Great enjoyment; zest Synonym: Zest Antonym: Dullness The children celebrated the event of keeping Lob with great gusto, for they were excited to play with him.

7 HABITATION (n.)- a place in which to live; a residence Synonym: Home Antonym: The Streets Lob was extremely grateful for his new habitation that was given to him.

8 HASTEN (v.)- to act or move quickly; hurry; to cause something to happen more quickly Synonym: Hurry Antonym: Procrastinate A grandmother like Sandy’s would definitely hasten to check on her injured grandchild in the hospital.

9 HAVOC (n.)- very great destruction or disorder Synonym: Disorder Antonym: Order Sandy’s family was in great havoc when they heard that their daughter was hit by a speeding truck.

10 QUELL (v.)- to cause a feeling or be less intense; to calm or settle Synonym: Settle Antonym: Worry When Lob arrived at the hospital he seemed to quell the family as Sandy stirred in her bed.

11 RECLUSE (n.)- a person who lives alone and has little to do with others Synonym: Hermit Antonym: Socializer Sandy’s grandmother was a recluse because she refused to live with her family.

12 RECUPERATE (v.)- to return to normal health; to recover Synonym: Recover Antonym: Worsen When Lob was at Sandy’s side in the hospital, she seemed to recuperate.

13 REPLENISH (v.)- to build up a supply of something again; fill again Synonym: Refill Antonym: Empty Whenever Lob returned to the house he replenished his hunger with some of Sandy’s mother’s food.

14 BEDLAM (n.)- uproar; confusion Synonym: Confusion Antonym: Calmness There was bedlam in the house when the children discovered that Lob was staying with them.

15 KOWTOW (v.)- to be overly polite and flattering; to fawn Synonym: Fawn Antonym: Ignore The children loved to kowtow Lob with treats and fun and games.

16 COGITATE (v.)- to ponder or think intently Synonym: Ponder Antonym: Ignore Sandy’s father seemed to ponder the thought of keeping Lob as a pet but was finally convinced by the kids to keep him.

17 DISHEVELED (adj.)- untidy Synonym: Messy Antonym: Dapper Lob was a very disheveled mess when he entered the hospital room.

18 PULCHRITUDE (adj.)- physical beauty Synonym: Prettiness Antonym: Ugliness Sandy’s pulchritude was ruined after she got pummeled by the speeding truck.
