WTCs over Europe and surface ozone in Poland Magdalena Bogucka Institute of Meteorology and Water Management Warsaw, Poland Email: magdalena.bogucka@imgw.pl

Data examined against the circulation/weather types according to 27 WTCs recommended by WG2 for 1996- 2002, for summer (JJA) and winter (DJF), separately Surface ozone data from Poland 4 stations (3 EMEP/GAW-WMO + 1 urban/suburban site) 8hO 3 values for 1996-2005

WTCs ranked according to EV index, i.e. Explained Variation (EV, expressed as percentages) (method recommended by WG3) Surface ozone data from Poland Calculations performed for domains: D-00 Leba, Jarczew, Sniezka D-05 Baltic SeaLeba D-06 Alpine regionSniezka D-07 Central EuropeLeba, Jarczew, Sniezka

Results

PL Leba – coastal region, Baltic Sea CEC – year!, and HBGWL, SANDRA, SANDRAS, OGWL

Leba – coastal region, Baltic Sea

PL Jarczew – rural region, central-eastern Poland CEC!, and HBGWL, OGWL, ZAMG

Jarczew – rural region, central-eastern Poland

Sniezka (Sudety Mts.) – mountain top CEC!, and HBGWL, WLKC733, SCHUEEPP, ZAMG? (LITTC in D07?)

PL Sniezka (Sudety Mts.) – mountain top

Conclusions, comments and remarks: Taking into account yearly data for 8hO3 surface ozone data - CEC! is the method number 1(?), But: Considering seasonal data for 8hO3 surface ozone data (summer JJA and winter DJF) best results according to EV-index are for: HBGWL OGWL. It is difficult to decide which domain is the best one for given 8hO3 at each station
