Please take a few moments from your busy schedule to review the valuable information contained within this new member orientation so you may become familiar with the many benefits ASLMS has to offer you. Also, it may be helpful for you to print the orientation for quick and easy reference. 10 Membership Renewal Renew Membership Online: Log onto Member Services Click on “Renew Memberships” and proceed to our secure payment system. ASLMS also accepts membership dues payments by phone, mail or fax.

11 Donate to Research Your Donation is Tax Deductible! Since 2007, ASLMS has awarded over $1.6 million to select applicants who submitted innovative grant proposals. Every ASLMS member can invest in ongoing research by contributing to the ASLMS Research Program. It’s easy to donate! You can submit a donation with your Membership Dues or simply log on to “Member Services” on the ASLMS website and Click on “Contributions” on the “Services” Tab All contributor names will be published in the ASLMS Newsletter, website, and at the Annual Conference! 14 Member-Get-a-Member Reduce your dues when you participate in the Member-Get-a-Member campaign. Click on the Member-Get-a-Member link (located on the aslms.org home page in the upper right hand corner.Member-Get-a-Member Enter the names and email addresses of colleagues you would like to refer. ASLMS will send a pre- produced email message from you directly to the person you’re inviting to join ASLMS. When your colleague clicks on the link in the email message received, he/she will be referred to the ASLMS Membership Benefits page which provides a quick and easy application process. ASLMS will automatically record your referrals to ensure that you receive the appropriate reward. Each applicant has to be approved and pay their membership dues for you to qualify for the reward. One member = $50 Two members = $100 Three members = $200 Four + members = $300 One member = $50 Two members = $100 Three members = $200 Four + members = $300 Bonus Rewards are available if we reach our annual campaign goal of new members!

17 Promote Yourself As An ASLMS Member! Send a news release: Use the news release template by logging into Member Services / Membership Information / New Member News Release Use the ASLMS name and logo: All ASLMS members are permitted to reference their ASLMS membership in their communications and marketing materials. Members must always utilize the name and logo in a professional manner consistent with the professional principles of the organization. For more information, click on “Advertising ASLMS Name and Logo” under the Member Services tab on the ASLMS website.

18 Are You a Board Certified Physician? Board certified* physician members can be located by the general public through our “Physician Locator” service in the Consumer Resources section of aslms.org Consumer Resources Each Board Certified member’s list of special procedures is included in his or her “Physician Locator” listing. Board Certified members can update and/or add to their procedures by going to “Member Services” and clicking “Physician Locator Update” *In order to be designated as being “Board Certified”, an individual must have received certification from one of the following: 1) an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved board, 2) an organization recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) as qualified to certify physicians as doctors of podiatric medicine, 3) an American Osteopathic Association (AOA) approved board, 4) the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), 5) the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), or 6) the American Dental Association (ADA) approved board as qualified to certify Doctors of Dentistry.

20 New Beginnings Radiation Mark Removal Program Program Description The New Beginnings: Radiation Mark Removal Program is a national campaign which provides a unique opportunity for ASLMS members to rally around a good cause, pro bono laser treatment for cancer patients with radiation tattoo marks. Benefits for Participants Participating members will be listed on the ASLMS website and publicized across various mediums including social media, news releases sent to ASLMS media contacts, and Society newsletters.

21 New Beginnings Radiation Mark Removal Program Requirements Participating physicians must be board certified and ASLMS members in good standing. Patients must bring an official letter from their oncologist or radiologist approving the removal of any radiation marks or tattoos. Patient visits are to be coordinated between the physician/practice and the patient. ASLMS will serve as a clearing house for patients so that they may locate participating physicians nearest to them via www.aslms.org. www.aslms.org The service must be open to all cancer patients and not limited to breast cancer or lymphoma. The program will run year round and be an ongoing service for cancer patients. 22 Access the Journal Lasers in Surgery and Medicine The official journal of the Society is published and distributed to ASLMS members eleven times per year. The journal contains clinical studies, reviews and research reports about the latest findings and uses of lasers in all surgical and medical specialties. Members will receive email content alerts, a full journal copy through mail, and access to the current issue plus 30 years of issues on-line. To access issues online, new members must register and establish an account with Wiley InterScience. Log into Member Services / Journal & Newsletter and follow instructions for first time users. 23 Submit a Manuscript to LSM If you are submitting a manuscript to Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, go to “Submit Manuscript to LSM” under the Member Services tab. You will be directed to the Wiley InterScience site where you will click on “Submit an Article” and register as a new user. 31 Silent Auction Since 2006, ASLMS has held a Silent Auction in conjunction with the ASLMS Annual Conference. Net proceeds from the Silent Auction supports research projects designed to foster the development and use of lasers and other related technologies in medical and surgical applications. Can’t attend upcoming Annual Conference? Don’t worry - any items that do not receive winning bids onsite during the Conference will be placed online for bidding after the Conference.

32 Partnership with Industry The Industry Advisory Council (IAC) works with ASLMS to increase the value of Society membership, improve patient care by supporting research initiatives, and the clinical application of lasers and related technologies in medicine and surgery. Companies who exhibit at the Annual Conference and members of the IAC are invited to post their new products in the Industry section of aslms.org.Industry

33 Research Grant Program ASLMS supports research projects designed to foster the development and use of lasers and other related technologies in medical and surgical applications. Any individual or organization desiring to conduct research which fosters the development and/or use of lasers in medical or surgical applications is eligible to apply. 35 Dr. Horace Furumoto Innovations Professional Development Award The ASLMS is very pleased to administer the annual Dr. Horace Furumoto Innovations Professional Development Award. This award was founded by Candela Corporation, Cynosure, and DEKA to memorialize the genius, leadership, and commitment of Dr. Horace Furumoto. These firms have joined together to create an endowment which annually may award up to $10,000 to an individual(s) who displays the potential for leadership and innovation characterized by Dr. Furumoto. Code of Ethics Membership in the ASLMS implies that both physician as well as non-physician members maintain the highest ethical standards and adhere to the tenets, standards, and principles.
