22. 1) Influence of the Past Native Americans were the first people to live in Brazil. In 1500’s the Portuguese took over Brazil. They forced Native Americans to work on sugar plantations and many died from disease. Brazil’s gov’t goes back and forth between dictatorship and democracy.
