3  Before you apply for positions,  Ensure you have the proper credentials.  Develop a strong curriculum vita.  Know what best suits your instruction.  Remember to check for job openings and be flexible. Preparing for a Job Search

6 Applicant Thoroughly research the institution to which you are applying. Thoroughly address how you meet or exceed qualifications for the position. Be specific. Provide clear, consistent, and convincing evidence why you are the right person for the position. Provide a compelling explain why you want the position. Remember to maintain a formal yet enthusiastic tone in the letter. Carefully check spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Be sure to use standard English. Do not recycle letters of interest.

10 Applicant Make certain that you possess appropriate credentials for the position. Answer all questions thoroughly and honestly. Provide all required documents (transcripts). Demonstrate flexibility. Explain gaps in employment. Provide names and addresses of references that are well acquainted with your work. These must include your immediate supervisor(s). Carefully check spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

13 Teaching Demonstrations Appropriate and Convincing Content  Something you can realistically cover in the time allowed.  Something clearly relevant to the job for which you applied.  Something whose import is so clear it needs no justification.  Something you can justify articulately.  Something you enjoy.  Something students have complimented you on. Clear, Exciting, Personal Teaching  Forecast and summarize the lesson.  Use effective verbal and non- verbal communication skills.  Use visuals.  Directly involve the “class.”  Pace appropriately.  Deliver the material clearly,  Be prepared to go to Plan “B.”

16 The Interview Be yourself – your best self. Dress professionally. Arrive early. Plan ahead. Be approachable, attentive, professional, enthusiastic, and positive. Be very well acquainted with the mission, vision, and culture of the institution to which you are applying. Be knowledgeable about your subject including content, pedagogy, and best practices. Listen carefully and answer questions honestly and thoughtfully. Respond fully to interview prompts and provide details. Do not stray off topic.

17 The Interview Be concise. Address interviewers by last name and title. Be prepared to talk about your philosophy of teaching. Maintain appropriate poise and posture. Avoid any trace of negativism. Ask questions. If permitted to make a statement at the conclusion of the interview, do so and make certain that it is impactful and that it supports your quest for employment. Thank the interviewers for the opportunity to interview.
